Is there a more 80's song than Jump by Van Halen? I think not.

Oh shit, what was that sound at the end? It's going to drive me crazy. Some movie begins with that...

The Final Countdown is definitely a contender. It's got the right combo of keyboard and guitar that is the hallmark of the era. In the end however, they're just not Van Halen. Eddie Van Halen is the quintessential eighties guitarist. If Jump is the ultimate American eighties tune though, The Final Countdown certainly stands as it's European counterpart (no pun intended).

Cool. It really is too bad the movie probably won't be that good.

I've had the book on my Kindle for a while. Looks like now is the perfect time to finally read it.

I wouldn't say it's a piece of shit, but it's very shallow, I do believe that Cline was a virgin when he wrote it, and really the riddles/clues are so obvious to almost anyone even cursorily interested in 80s culture, much less in this world where everyone has become obsessed with the time period.
But it's still kinda entertaining and is a quick airport type book.

If you like the book you’ll like he movie, if you didn’t like it then you won’t be missing much. There are enough changes though to help it stand apart as you can probably tell from the trailer.

I don't think anyone is going to claim that Ready Player One is any kind of masterpiece. It's a fun page turner that isn't meant to be taken too seriously. There are some compelling ideas involving The Oasis and the potential for such a system to influence daily life. The dystopian world the story takes place in also has some interesting elements that I would have liked to see better explored, but these things are merely the backdrop of the story.
If anyone besides Spielberg were making Ready Player One, I'd say the odds of it being a total disaster were high. With him at the helm though, it should be a fun ride.

I'm glad to see they got the rights to use the Bebop from the anime Cowboy Bebop. It's not a pivotal element of the book, but it's still nice that it's been included.
