What are you favourites of all time?
When I'm wasted with friends there's not much we prefer doing than watching our favourite trailers.
It's a beautiful artform.
My top two:
For nostalgia...
And for goddamn perfect execution:

THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY 1967 AMERICAN TRAILER THAT MIXES UP THE CHARACTERS AND SPOILS THE MOVIE.*cue John Williams* "His name is Kal-El. He will call himself Clark Kent. I remember in 2000 there was a Gladiator super bowl spot that had Kid Rock's Bawitaba playing. It was really badass but I've never been able to find it since. Free Girl Scout cookies for the person who finds it and posts the link.

"De Niro. Bang the Drum Slowly, the critics called him a brave new talent. After Mean Streets, they said he was a genius. For his performance in The Godfather Part Two, they gave him the Academy award. Now, Robert De Niro, creates a terrifying new portrait of life on the edge of madness."

I find it funny how there are classic films out there that have completely innocuous trailers. Like, no trailer could ever encapsulate the quality of certain films. It's weird.
I'm thinking specifically of Heat, Requiem For A Dream and Good Will Hunting.
Some movies just need to be seen.

Next discussion point: great trailers that failed to deliver on an epic scale.
I fell in love with trailers after seeing the very first LOTR teaser in 2000. For the next decade I was an addict. You know what ruined it for me? This:
Prior to release, there was no way that this film could fail. The bitter disappointment definitely soured my appreciation of a good trailer from then onwards.

What exactly are you asking? Great trailers to bad movies? Bad trailers to great movies? Misleading trailers?

Here's the trailer that I searched for which eventually brought me to Comingsoon.net. It was only a few months after I got the internet in my house and is one of the first trailers I actually sought out after hearing about it on Entertainment Tonight. I would wager I watched this trailer no less than 100 times after I found it.

Disappointing trailers. Ones that failed to live up to the hype.
That probably applies to most but what are the stand-outs.

I genuinely think LOTR raised the bar big time.

I watched this trailer no less than 100 times after I found it. On dial-up? Crazy! Back then, I used to rely on the E!'s Coming Attractions. Although... after the September 11th terrorist attacks... this trailer became a must-download for every geek in the planet: That's what led me to Spider-Man Hype (the original name of SuperHeroHype) and then eventually to ComingSoon and then to the unofficial ComingSoon. What a journey!

Alien 5 rumors is what led me to Coming Soon.
After 15 years, I can finally leave the internet soon.

I can't believe you were still hooked on the Alien franchise after Alien 4... AvP must have really sated your appetite in '04. The Matrix Reloaded led me here.
