www.avclub.com/article/directors-say-21-jump-streetmen-black-crossover-mi-213839Confirming information first revealed as a result of the Sony hacks, 21 Jump Street co-director Phil Lord has now officially acknowledged that talks are ongoing about mounting a Jump Street/Men In Black crossover movie. According to Lord, nothing has changed as a result of the Sony leaks: “It’s still a crazy idea, and we only do things that seem like they’re going to be terrible,” he tells MTV. Elaborating on said terribleness, Lord added, “We’re really focusing on what’s a great story for Schmidt and Jenko and how to tell the next chapter in their lives. And perhaps use creatures from another world at the same time.” As to whether the film would include Will Smith or Tommy Lee Jones (the latter of whom we just can’t picture hanging out with Jonah Hill on set), Lord explained that their participation is still being discussed, as is everything about this idea. At the very least, we know that Hill is eager to sign on to the project, because as MTV notes, in the original leaked email he called the idea “clean and rad and powerful.” And if Sony slaps that onto the poster, how can anyone resist?

Interesting news. Can't say I would not enjoy seeing this if it is anything like I pictured in my head when I saw the thread title.

If this works, random franchise crossovers will become the new reboots.

If this works, random franchise crossovers will become the new reboots. I'm fine with that as long as I get a Twilight/Blade crossover.

So the status is more or less "unlikely to happen, but maybe", at least according to Jonah Hill:

I think it would make more sense if they had a Men in Black/Mighty Ducks crossover which is what I've been saying for years.

Steven Spielberg owns the movie rights to Men in Black. I think he's reluctant to give this a green light.

Men In Black Spin-Off Ditches Jump Street And Finds New WritersSince the release of Men In Black 3, there has been chatter about the next potential chapter, including the idea of a direct fourth film and, in recent years, a crossover with 21 Jump Street. The latter now appears to have been abandoned with the new MIB moving forward as just a reboot with a new cast. Now the movie as it stands has a release date – 17 May, 2019.It has one other thing too – well, technically, two, as Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, who have written on the likes of Iron Man and this year's Transformers: The Last Knight (so one out of two ain't bad) are on board for the movie, which doesn't currently plan to feature original stars Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones at all. Of course, they could be tempted to make cameos with the right financial terms, but we'd put more cash on Smith popping in than Jones. What will happen in the new movie is anyone's guess, though you've got to figure more trouble with aliens and prodigious use of the neuralyzers, though we'd figure the studio would love to have a giant version to make us all forget the exciting prospect of an MIB/Jump St. crossover. That date – in the US so far – would see the movie facing off against John Wick 3 and, in a weird bit of box office coincidence, seeing competition from Will Smith in Disney's new Aladdin the week after.www.empireonline.com/movies/men-black/men-black-spin-ditches-jump-street-finds-new-writers/
