Both Adams were interesting. I think they were both extremely intelligent guys who were basically born to be the most efficient types of bureaucratic leaders, but both of them suffered from the same fates of being turned on by their own parties and unable to get much of anything done during their tenures. Too bad, because I think both had some great ideas and would be regarded more favorably if they could actually garner support and pass the things they wanted to.
Quincy Adams was a remarkable Secretary of State though. James Monroe got his name on the Monroe Doctrine, but it was Quincy Adams who actually authored it.

1. George Washington (set things up 8. Andrew Jackson Andrew Jackson is as important as Washington in setting the template of the Presidency. 1. He was against elitism in office. He was “the common man” President, after all, and was totally opposed to business interests controlling the government. He would have despised Reagan, W. Bush, Trump, Fox News and all of current day politics — including the Clinton’s and Joe Biden. Dude was the Bernie Sanders and AOC of his day. He completely shook up the Presidency and all the Washington elites hated him and feared him. Jackson and Teddy were like the only Presidents getting into fist fights at the White House. 2. He wanted to abolish the electoral college and set term-limits for Supreme Court judges. Millennials & Zoomers would vote for Jackson on just these two platforms alone. 3. He launched investigations on corrupt politicians. Imagine if Jackson had been President after W. Bush or tomorrow been his inauguration. W. Bush would be sitting in prison and Trump would be walking out of the White House in handcuffs. Moscow Mitch would be shitting his pants. Again, Millennials & Zoomers would be 100% in favor of this. I mean, dude, the man went after John Quincy Adams. So this is no exaggeration on my part. Andrew Jackson gave no fucks. 4. He reformed the post office. That’s something that Joe Biden needs to do ASAP. 5. Only time in U.S. history that the national debt was paid off. 6. The Petticoat Affair a.k.a Don’t You Dare Slut Shame in front of Jackson. The first feminist President? You be the judge, sir. 7. He settled trade disputes with Europe; attempted relations with China long before Nixon. Although, admittedly, he failed in other areas.

People don’t realize that Kennedy was wrapped up in foreign affair issues. All the domestic accomplishments that they credit to Kennedy were actually done by LBJ. Kennedy was only President for 2 years. He didn’t actually get much done. LBJ finished Kennedy’s term and then did his 4-year term. That whole cultural shift in the 1960’s was LBJ. But he’s sandwiched in between the Kennedy assassination and Watergate, so no one actually pays attention to his Presidency. But he’s definitely, at least second to FDR, in 20th century Presidents. I'd probably argue for Eisenhower over LBJ. His reputation has been somewhat hampered by boomers who view him as part and parcel with the 50s social mores they rebelled against but his civil rights record is under-rated: he exerted pressure to better desegregate the military and he also enforced the integration effort in Little Rock. He also set up the highway system and his handling of foreign policy flashpoints like the late Korean War and the Suez Crisis were masterful. Were he in LBJ's shoes in the 60s I think he would have supported the civil rights bills but I'm not so sure he would have made the same Vietnam blunders. The same Boomers who shit on Eisenhower were also against LBJ cause of Vietnam. We need a post-Boomer re-evaluation of both men.

I took this photo a few weeks ago while taking the dog for a walk, and have been meaning to post it for a while.

I spent much of today going through the list of people who got pardons. I got about a quarter of the way through before I got bored of it. Some of them appear to have been people who genuinely deserved one, but there was no shortage of pardons for trump's cronies, too. I was surprised that a significant number of them were mostly pointless, as they were granted to people who had already served their prison sentences. One of them was even dead.
On the plus side, Tiger King got snubbed. Most importantly, not a single one of the terrorists who stormed the Capitol two weeks ago got a pardon.

I suspect it goes well beyond mere hope. The fact of the matter is that all of this nonsense about election rigging is just trump's ego given free reign. He never wanted to be President in the first place. He just wanted the attention. Actually being President brought with it a level of scrutiny he wasn't prepared to deal with. His future is to be a right wing troll. The trumpettes can follow him to where ever he winds up, but it's going to be an echo chamber. He loved being on Twitter because it was a forum everyone was on. Now he's banned for life, and even his right wing alternative has been banned. I'm sure another will take it's place, but that will also be an echo chamber. He'll hold his rallies for the faithful, and he's welcome to them. All he really wants is attention, and there's enough of that available to make him happy for the rest of his days. What we have to be on the look out for now is his replacement. There are plenty of contenders, like Ted Cruz and Matt Gaetez. They'll happily foam at the mouth and spout nonsense if it will court enough votes to bring them more power. They have zero concern for the future of the GOP. All they care about is their own positions.
