I don't know how you yanks have stayed (relatively) sane. You say that like we have... But at least we are (seemingly) getting rid of the guy, unlike a certain other country that's completely doubling down on their misguided exit from a certain political and economic union.

I'm not celebrating shit until those states officially turn blue on the map. Even then I'm going to need to lament the absolute nightmare that a GOP controlled senate is going to be.

We’re counting on Georgia to flip the senate. That would be great, but let's be realistic, Georgia (hopefully) just eked out an unlikely upset by narrow margins while voting against an eminently haltable president. It's not super likely they'll be able to do the same in two races against candidates who "fit the district" and one of whom clearly outperformed said president the first time despite being an absolute shit bag.

Kavanaugh seems like a partisan hack to me. Barrett is extremely lacking in experience and is only there because she's Scalia's protege, which is a statement that should scare anyone. These aren't the best options for the job. These are who Trump picked to be loyal to his conservative efforts. Would they abandon duty for Trump in the wake of ruling on the election? Remains to be seen, but I'm not putting my faith in those two, especially Kavanaugh. I think Kavanaugh is as partisan as they come. The thing is though that Kavanaugh is a conservative partisan. Overturning existing election laws is not something conservatives are in favor of, and that's what would be necessary to help Trump, because the laws as they are currently followed don't help Trump in the slightest. Barrett does appear to be cut from the same cloth as Scalia, who would change his position to match the GOP in a heartbeat. The others conservatives, not so much. frankyt thebtskink https://www.reddit.com/r/politics/comments/jpgj6e/comment/gbeidv9 A few hours ago, an update of Georgia's 2020 Presidential election results was released. It showed Joe Biden winning Georgia by only 1,579 votes. I wondered if Donald Trump would be in the lead if he had a stronger response to the COVID-19 pandemic, so I did the rough math complete with sources. 8,359 Deaths[1] x 151% Excess Deaths[2] x 96% Survival[3] = 12,117 Lives Saved 12,117 Saved x 77% Participation[4] x 95.4% Eligible[5] = 8,901 Voters 8,901 Voters x 60% Republicans[6] = 5,341 Votes for Trump 8,901 Voters x 40% Democrats[6] = 3,560 Votes for Biden 5,341 Trump - 3,560 Biden = 1,781 Trump Net Gain 1,781 Trump Net Gain - 1,579 Biden Lead[7] = Trump wins GA by 202 Votes It would have been incredibly ironic if this tally would have remained and Trump lost Georgia because of his weak response to the COVID-19 pandemic. You never know. Tuesday night I nearly wrote off the election prematurely and everything nearly worked itself out overnight. This could be it.

Democrats have till Jan 5th to pull off a miracle. Then the senate is tied and Vice President Kamala Harris is the tie breaking vote. At this point it looks like the best Democrats can hope for is a 50-50 tie which might be wishful thinking considering Georgia politics like Drac said. At the same time though Democrats are going to be very, very gun shy about going hog wild on any of the stuff they've threatened to do over the past few months. Although they're running their victory lap around Trump they know that there's nothing else to be happy about. Since I last posted in this thread it looks like Republicans picked up even more seats in the House and they're ahead in a few other races. Dems know that if they push on anything like court expansion or ending the filibuster or even raising taxes that Republicans are going to use it to hammer them in 2022 and that a Republican House majority in 2022 is possible, even likely. Democrats aren't stupid and they know that Biden winning is the only thing that prevented Tuesday from being an unmitigated disaster for them. If they don't want 2022 to be a repeat they'll need to pull back on the throttle.

Though we've known what the result will be for a few days now, it feels so amazing to see it become official.
I don't think it's hyperbolic at all to say that this is one of the greatest days in American history. Have fun celebrating my friends! Still a lot of work to do to combat McConnell, but for today we enjoy victory.

Edit: I initially posted this because I thought it would be funny and appropriate. After the song actually began to play though, I burst into tears. I don't think it really sank in until that moment, and I had no idea how much pent up emotion I had bottled up.

We now broadcast to you live from the Biden campaign office where President Elect Joe Biden addresses the nation for the first time after his long grueling battle with Donald Trump.
In regards to Trump's repeated attempts to undercut the integrity of democracy and cling to office, Biden had this to say...
