If I were doing a top 20 games of the last generation (including PS3) it would probably be something like (not ranked):
Assassin's Creed II (Maybe not objectively the best of the series, but certainly the one that defined it)
Batman: Arkham Asylum (Best Metroid game of the generation, also has batman in it)
Batman: Arkham City (Just a hella awesome batman experience)
Bioshock (Who'd of thought video games could critique Randian objectavism)
Bioshock: Infinite (Less sophisticated than original, but so much more fun and rad, awesome time travel story type thing)
Dark Souls (Has some annoying quirks but the design is just so fucking rad and I like the challenge)
Dead Space (Some of the best atmosphere ever in a horror game)
Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (Amazing open world, dumped hours upon hours into it)
Fallout: New Vegas (Had some very unfortunate technical bugs, but the main story is way better than 3 and the environment has more flair)
Far Cry 3 (You get to stab a shark)
Gears of War (The original was the best, popularized the cover based shooter)
Grand Theft Auto IV (Dig that east coast vibe)
Grand Theft Auto V (Just a massively impressive achievement in content density)
Last of Us, The (Probably the most successfully cinematic thing in the history of video games)
Mass Effect (Lacks the polish of the sequels, still has a much better main campaign)
Mass Effect 2 (So fucking awesome)
Portal 2 (I view Orange box as more of a remnant of the last gen, but this is a beautiful example of how to do comedy in games)
Red Dead Redemption (Pound for pound probably the best and most well rounded game of the generation)
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (One of the most polished shooters ever, lovely writing)
Xcom: Enemy Unknown (Best strategy game I've played in forever)

Never played Dark Souls, Dead Space, New Vegas, Far Cry 3, Xcom, or any of the PS3 exclusives. I'll finally hit up The Last of Us and the Uncharted sequels on PS4. I did strongly consider Assassin's Creed II and Gears of War. Had I expanded my list they definitely would have been included.

Don't you dare disparage Catan!
Also lighten up, Ian. And if you need a good foothold into this recent generation of gaming, Dracula is right in recommending The Last of Us. It's like a video game version of The Road, with stuff actually happening.

Muahahahaha! I'm getting to them...
Also PG, how id you take sequels into account? Because I know that video games can be very guilty of have sequels that are very similar, just with updated graphics and the like. Did you just group some of those together with the same entry?

Did you just group some of those together with the same entry? For the most part, each list entry is strictly for that specific game. The only exception to this is Modern Warfare 2, since the Call of Duty games are all basically the same. I just listed MW2 because it's the one I played. Beyond that, the other sequels listed were different enough to let stand on their own. Speaking of sequels, I did have cases were a really great sequel forced me to rank an earlier game lower. GTA IV and Arkham Asylum would both be a lot higher if we lived in a world without GTA V and Arkham City.

X-Com is a brilliant game. You cringe every time one of your "friends" die.

X-Com is a brilliant game. You cringe every time one of your "friends" die. The PS1 is long gone but I still have my copy of the original XCOM: Enemy Unknown for it. Like Goldeneye when I sold my N64, I just couldn't bare to part with a game that had given me so many wonderful memories. The 2012 remake was great but I never had the time to properly get into it.

Top Ten Horror TaglinesI’m not sure why, but horror movies seem to have some of the most awesome taglines of all-time. This list is all about honouring the most chilling, most memorable, and most enticing taglines the genre has to offer. 10. “Oh yes, there will be blood”, from Saw IIA running theme in this list is simplicity. I love when a tagline can really elegantly communicate a lot about the film with minimal effort. This understated promise for Saw II does just that while also signifying the direction the gore filled sequels would eventually go. 9. “Herbert West has a very good head on his soldiers…and another one on his desk”, from Re-AnimatorThis tagline does a great job telling you something about the movie (namely that it deals with a scientist experimenting with body parts) while also showing off the film’s sick sense of humour. Fun stuff. 8. “They’re Here”, from Poltergeist (1982)Who are they? Where did they come from? What are they going to do? So many questions brought on with just two words. No wonder the line became iconic. 7. “When there is no more room in Hell the dead will walk the earth”, from Dawn of the Dead (1978)This is a tagline that not only reveals that the dead are walking among the living, but really stresses the apocalyptic nature of the larger scale sequel to George A. Romero’s original classic Night of the Living Dead. The way the narrator says the line in the trailer is also really awesome. 6. “He’ll tear your soul apart”, from HellraiserI think I mostly like this one because it sounds like it could be a Slayer lyric. Terrifying and to the point. 5. “The only thing more terrifying than the last 12 minutes of this film are the first 92”, from SuspiriaThis tagline is actually kind of confusing. It implies the film is 104 minutes, but it’s actually only 92. So, it’s essentially saying that the entirety of the film is scarier than just the last 12 minutes, which is to be expected. Whatever, it still sounds cool. 4. “To avoid fainting, keep repeating: “It’s only a movie, only a movie, only a movie…”, from The Last House on the Left (1972)I really don’t like this movie, but that doesn’t change the fact that this is one hell of a tagline, one which makes announces the film as uncompromising, brutal, and authentic. Not only that, but The Last House on the Left also has a second fantastic tagline; “Mari, 17, is dying. Even for her the worst is yet to come.” 3. “Be afraid. Be very afraid.”, from The Fly (1986)There are all sorts of silly, B-movie-esque taglines they could have used to sell this Cronenberg masterpiece, most of which would certainly draw attention to the original 1958 film. Instead, the marketing team opted for this very effective tagline which quite simply declares this isn’t going to be some goofy fun. 2. “Who will survive and what will be left of them?”, from The Texas Chain Saw MassacreIn the realm of brutal and uncompromising taglines, they don’t get any better than this gem for The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. Not only does it establish the life or death stakes of the film, but the line also hints at the levels of depravity on display. Put simply, you know the characters are going to be fucked up. 1. “In space no one can hear you scream”, from AlienThis is a perfect tagline. At a glance, it doesn’t even seem overtly threatening. But the line does speak to the film’s horror and sense of isolation. And yet, it tells you nothing about the film’s plot or characters. There’s still a lot of mystery. It’s not just a great horror tagline, but the greatest tagline for any film ever made.

The Who lyrics, actually.
“Be afraid. Be very afraid.”, from The Fly (1986)
This phrase predates The Fly.
Good #1.

Also Jaws 2 had a good one:
