That's next on the fantasy list.

The movie is now at 42%, so it should hover around there. Not a disaster, but not a return to form either. "Speed Racer" is at a 39% and "The Matrix Revolutions" at a 36%, so it will at least be better than those movies. Not that that's saying much.

I'm sure the movie is better than critics are saying.

Eh, they're not trashing it. The consensus is that it's a plot we've seen a million times before (the "chosen one" will do great things), it's really, really convoluted, and it takes itself way too seriously. On the positives, critics say the camerawork is exceptionally strong, it's a fun movie if you turn your brain off (never really a ringing positive but okay), and it's beautiful to look at. So I don't think they're being overly harsh, it seems like it contains the typical Wachowski positives of ambitious story and setting, great visuals, big set pieces, and smoothly choreographed camera work and action. Also the negatives we've seen since "The Matrix Reloaded": too many hollow characters, convoluted plot, pseudo babble that isn't as interesting as it was with "The Matrix", overly long, and ideas that don't mesh. I'll give this a shot, I won't pay for it, but I've seen all their other films and you can do a lot worse.

I thought you were seeing this in theaters. I can't watch Jupiter Ascending without Jibbs reviewing it. He's my syfy guru. And by the time he sees it, I would have moved on to Fifty Shades of Grey. So it's Redbox or HBO for me.

The Wachowskis are disappointed in you. Considering I'm one of the few people who liked Cloud Atlas, I think they'll be okay.

"Bound" has very Matrix-esque shots (the best is when the guy is getting beat up and his blood falls into the toilet and the camera tracks it into the toilet in the other room in a fluid shot, so awesome) and a good story, a good twist on the typical femme-fatale crime caper. I think they've gotten a little too effects happy and could benefit from going back to their fundamentals more. I mean, if this bombs, how many more big budget chances do they get? They can only piggyback on "The Matrix" for so long, right?

If this flops, brace yourself for Matrix 4. It's bound to happen at some point, whether it's by them or someone else.

It's bound to happen at some point, whether it's by them or someone else. It's gone now, but on the old CS! there an article about Matrix 4 being a reality if Jupiter Ascending flopped. It was the only way The Wachowski's could get Warner Bros. to release Cloud Atlas.

That makes sense, I was wondering if there was some kind of catch that Warner Bros. imposed with all of these massive flops they keep producing for the siblings.

I was wondering if there was some kind of catch that Warner Bros. imposed with all of these massive flops they keep producing for the siblings. Warner Bros. didn't make Cloud Atlas. That was made through European investors. But they did distribute the movie and produce Jupiter Ascending, and as you said, there has to be a catch and that's when rumors about Matrix 4 started to resurface. We had a big thread about it at the old CS!. It's a shame that it's gone.

Ah, you're correct about "Cloud Atlas", do they have to make Matrix 5 for them since those investors lost a bunch of money too? But in all seriousness, I would not be surprised one bit at Matrix 4 surfacing in the near future, development-wise anyways. I'm sure it's not what the Wachowskis want to do, but they can look at it that they make another big hit and they have creative freedom again to do what they want. I mean, if they don't, someone will in the future, so why not capitalize a little more on their product to make other products? 3 Matrix films got them 3 movies, so maybe that's the price.

There's a lot of untapped potential that could be exploited in a fourth Matrix movie. I remember the anime being pretty good, it being a separate story altogether, and even the graphic novels were decent, as well. Granted, I was in high school when I read/watched all of this, so who knows if any of it holds up.

The Matrix was a loop. You could literally make zillions of Matrix sequels.
