SyFy (seriously), Warner Horizon Television and David Goyer are developing a TV show about Superman's GRANDfather.

I'm not even tempted to watch this. Of all the hundreds of potential DC characters to choose from for a series, this is who they pick?

I'll take the wait-and-see approach.

Why not make a Green Lantern series, SyFy? I feel like watching Hal Jordan or Jon Stewart travel the cosmos on different missions would be far more interesting than watching Superman's grandfather.

Sound expensive. Traveling the cosmos means different sets every week. The BBC can afford to do it with Doctor Who because the show is highly profitable. Syfi does things on the cheap most of the time. Given the Syfi reputation for goofiness of late, I'd expect someone like Booster Gold to be about their speed.

I agree, but at least it would be interesting. I don't know why SyFy expects anybody to be excited about this. Seeing Jor-el run around doing science-y and/or political things would be a stretch to start with, but Jor-el's father? Superman's grandfather? Why am I supposed to give a shit?

Was Superman's grandfather in the comics or are they making this shit up? He's an actual character named Seyg-El (as in Jerry Siegel) who is Jor-El's father. He is a very minor character of no real consequence. What little mention there is of him is all of Seyg-El as an old man.

Personally, I'd like to see a spin-off featuring Superman's distant Earth cousin, Jeff, who lives a modest life working for IBM customer support.

It looks as though the video was taken down because the series still hasn't been greenlit. It would seem that SyFy is unsure if Krypton meets their standards. link

Oh my goodness. What's next? An Avengers show without The Avengers? A batman show without Batman?
Oh wait...

Oh my goodness. What's next? An Avengers show without The Avengers? A batman show without Batman? Oh wait... What's next is Black Lightning. Even so, there are hundreds of DC characters who are far better suited to a TV series than Superman's grandpa. One would think that SyFy would have learned from the failure of Caprica that nobody gives a pair of fetid dingo's kidneys about a TV series about a world we already know is doomed. Nothing that happens on a Krypton series is going to matter in the slightest. Planet go BOOM! Kevin Smith and Mark Bernardin recently revealed that they were working with WB on a series based on The Question, and it never got past the development stage. That, I would have been interested in checking out. If Krypton makes it to series, I will ignore it. Zero interest beyond just trying to figure out WTF goes through the brains of studio heads at WB.

It looks like this steaming pile of imminent failure is just around the corner. Premier date is 03/21/18. It looks very CW, but shittier. link
