My favorite book. They've been trying to make one of these for a while and I was really nervous that they would fuck it up. That looks pretty great though and the German is a nice touch.

Feel like the intimate killing in the crater will be a bit rushed in this. Should have been like half the trailer/movie if it was being faithful to the source material no?

That's a tough scene to film. Isn't he in the crater for hours with the French soldier? It's such a pivotal moment in the book but like you said it would take up a huge chunk of the movie if they really wanted to lay into it which wouldn't really work. It looks like this version is leaning more heavily into the violence too which is good and probably necessary in 2022, hopefully they don't overdo it.

I'm halfway in and it's a heavy, heavy departure from the book. Haven't gotten to the crater scene that frankyt mentioned but aside from names it's mostly doing its own thing. It's not bad at all, it just isn't a very faithful adaptation up to this point.
