Last night is up there as one of my favorite episodes of television of all time. Can't believe they topped 'International Assassin'.

The thud at the scanner is one of my favorite jokes they've done.

Alright. So my thoughts, spoilered for those who haven't seen it. It appears to be a deliberate intention of the showrunners to have this Second World appear as if it's a lucid dream to Kevin. While the logic doesn't make complete sense as in the real world, it's built to be translated the same as if it's a dream. Is it a purgatory/limbo? Everyone Kevin encounters is already dead, drinking the water from International Assassin led people to be complacent in that world and not see the truth, and that Spanish speaking woman in that same episode looked as if she was being given the role of a doctor but unprepared, like Kevin was as an assassin.
But what to make of this episode? Kevin's president self, demarcated by his beard and Guilty Remnant threads, declares Marriage to be the greatest threat to humanity. Patti thinks people are "too chickenshit" to realize they want the world to end. And the romance novel, that assassin and President Kevin both had a hand in writing, longs for a relationship that Kevin ruined with Nora. Is Kevin nuking the world where he's at his most destructive, where he's willing to push the people he loves away? Is that the point of killing his assassin self? He's woken up presumably a day after the anniversary, and the world hasn't ended. Ultimately I think we're going to get a nihilistic view of what happens to the Departed, and the focus would end up being on valuing what one does have in their current reality.

I personally think his dreams mean diddly squat and we won't hear from that world again.

I personally think his dreams mean diddly squat and we won't hear from that world again. Then why did you think the episode was epic? Also, they went back there in last seasons finale. I'm really angry this is ending soon.

Was it the finale or the penultimate ep last season? It felt to me like they just wanted to recreate that awesome randomness again.

I'm also curious what Tornado/John thinks of this show. He had a very negative reaction to Lindelof on the Lost finale.

Pretty sure he tweeted after the last episode that it may have been the best hour of television ever made.

I gotta say having the old theme music playing over the newer opening was chilling.

Decent finale. Overall, it didn't reach the quality of s2 but it came damn close. And the explanation for the departed was nicely done, seems such an obvious answer/twist after the fact.
Hope it gets the rewards it deserves come awards season.

Yeah I liked the explanation. I just wish they would have done a little more show and not so much tell.

Thing is, even if she's not telling the truth, her conversation with Kevin made it clear it was something she needed to believe in, and he was willing to let her have it if so.
That two last monologues from each of them were gripping tv.

I thought the finale was pitch perfect. Season three overall was not quite as good as season two but what is honestly. 6 or 7 of the 8 episodes were still of the utmost quality. The only one I didn't really care for was the Kevin Sr. episode.
Ian - I liked the show don't tell in this case because it leaves open the possibility that she isn't telling the truth even if I tend to believe her.
