I'm sure they'll get to it in part 3... unless something else comes up and they don't, either way they found a clever-ish way to incorporate the character and keep the actor involved. That kind of stuff isn't a dealbreaker for me and I, too, liked how they were still able to incorporate Chiwetel in this, but he must be playing the long game with his "there are too many sorcerers!" proclamation after taking back Benjamin Bratt's character's ability to walk in the first movie's second post-credit scene.
Well, maybe there's something to letting some of their heroes have long term nemeses who are at large instead immediately bringing them back in a sequel to kill them off or arrest them.

it DID feel kind of weird that they used a Doctor Strange sequel to essentially serve as the true series finale of WandaVision rather than actually continue anything significant set up in the first Doctor Strange movie. The first Doctor Strange was Batman Begins meets 2008 Iron Man meets Inception. I don’t think anyone was interested in getting a sequel to that. Doctor Strange breakthrough in this franchise thanks to Infinity War and No Way Home. People have come to accept Doctor Strange as a reactionary character to events in the MCU. Although you might get your wish and Doctor Strange will have his Thor Ragnarok moment. I think this is a larger issue within the MCU. Despite being a shared universe, they're kind of terrible at longterm storytelling. Winter Soldier ends with the collapse of SHIELD, the reveal of a new over-arching enemy in Hydra, and Cap and Falcon vowing to find Bucky. Then Age of Ultron wraps up Hydra in the opening scene, Cap basically looks at the camera and is like "let's put a pin in the whole Bucky thing", and the movie climaxes with SHIELD riding in at full-strength with a bunch of Helicarriers. Ultron also starts to tease dissent between Cap and Tony, but then by the end they're all good and it's fine. But then you get to Civil War and oh no they actually do need to be ideologically divided. But then giving them opposing viewpoints might involve making one semi-villainous so actually they're fighting about Bucky where they're both positioned to be sort of right and likable. Civil War reveals Vision has a crush on Wanda and then in Infinity War they've been living together for years and are madly in-love. Thor loses an eye in Ragnarok but then just gets a new one in Infinity War. Age of Ultron went out of its way to emphasize the Avengers saving people in the battles but then Civil War's conflict is all about how they've let too many people die in collateral damage. Homecoming makes a big deal out of Spider-Man choosing not to become an Avenger and remain a street-level hero, but then in Infinity War he goes to space and becomes an Avenger anyway. Thanos being the one who sent Loki to in Avengers 1 also makes no sense in hindsight. If his goal was to collect all the Infinity Stones, why give the Mind Stone to Loki? Infinity War makes a big deal out of Banner and The Hulk not getting along, but then in Endgame he's just like "I worked it out off camera". Also, Tony and Pepper break-up, get back together, get married, and have a kid all off camera. No wonder Gwyneth Paltrow doesn't remember being in Spider-Man: Homecoming.MCU works best as a collection of movies. Individually, they’re largely mediocre. Infinity War/Endgame are the only movies I’d argue are great. I don’t get caught up in the side-plots cause they don’t matter. They’re window dressing.

This was great. Tons of Raimi touches. Somewhere between 8 and 9/10.

There is only one question about this movie that matters: Does Balckbolt's wife Medusa have a shaved head in that universe too, or did they not go overbudget?

Definitely a lot of Raimi touch in this, which were the best parts. On the whole, not sure how much I loved the overall product.
Thought the Strange/America relationship could have been stronger.

I don't read the comics - is there a good/significant reason her name is America? Seems...odd. For many reasons.

Hey... I dug it.
7/10 not too bad. Wanted more mirror dimension trippiness, didn't get that really at all this round, maybe next time.
Dug the illuminati and their ends. Wanda def had some stilted delivery in this one. Kid didn't bug me much at all.

The big question going into Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (at least among cinephiles and not the MCU apostles) is to what degree it would feel like a Sam Raimi movie. Marvel is known to maintain a pretty rigid house-style that rarely gives their directors a chance to express themselves. With Doctor Strange, I'd equate the experience to hearing Metallica on the radio. You're not getting the pureness of Creeping Death or No Remorse, and are more likely to hear stuff like Enter Sandman or Nothing Else Matters or Until it Sleeps. Watered down songs that lack the Thrash Metal ecstasy of the band at their peak. But at the same time, it's still Metallica, and the music retains the style of heavy riffs, gravel vocals, and electrifying solos. And sometimes, if you're lucky, you do occasionally get the full 8 and a half minutes of Master of Puppets, and it rules.
What does that mean for this movie? Basically that while Multiverse of Madness is still unmistakably another MCU episode, it does bear Sam's signature style, particularly with regard to his energetic camera movement and aggressive angles. While the early set-pieces feel like fairly traditional Marvel action scenes with a bit of flavour (akin to the more radio friendly Metallica songs) the set-pieces start to blend horror and ghoulish comedy more and more frequently, to the point that the climax feels a direct descend to Evil Dead-era Raimi ("MASTER! MASTER! Where's the dreams that I've been after?"). And it's a whole lot of fun. I can't say there's anything here as sublime as the best of Spider-Man 2 or the deranged lunacy of Evil Dead II, but it comes closer than I expected. I also was pleasantly surprised by the relative restraint when it came to fan-servicey cameos. There basically retained to one section of the movie and while I can't say I loved their inclusion, there is a subversive element to their inclusion which does ultimately raise the stakes.
If the movie has any stumbling block, it's that I never really bought that much into the emotional beats of the story. Doctor Strange is a fun enough character, but I really don't give a crap about his personal life and a lot of this film is dedicated to his romantic anguish. It's not actively bad or anything but it's pretty uninspired. The movie's really fun final shot is also undercut by a bafflingly terrible post-credits scene. The first post-credits scene, mind you. The second one was awesome. Ultimately though, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is easily the most fun I've had with a Marvel movie in years, an exciting romp full of stylish set-pieces and imagination. That music fight is not a scene I'll likely forget anytime soon. Hopefully we don't have to wait another 9 years for Sam to make another film.
