I just remember it being a stuffy costume drama. You should give it another shot. I thought something similar on a first viewing but my rewatch was revelatory. The performances (DDL was nominated for the wrong movie in 1993), the cinematography, THE SCORE! It's beautiful. Well, it took me an embarrassingly long time to come around to fully loving Heat, so who knows.
Also, I watched The Vanishing this afternoon. Good movie...but it's kinda creepy how much the kidnapper in that movie looked exactly like my 11th grade Science teacher, right on down to the chin beard.

I used to wear a goatee as a chin beard, filled it in a few years back and now clean shaven.
This rewatch has cemented I'll never go back to that look.

Full disclosure, I have to go out of town for a few weeks tomorrow. I don't know if I'll have the opportunity to watch the last couple movies I have, the beast known as Fanny and Alexander and then All About My Mother. I took up Drac's advice and found a library nearby, went to pick it up and they said 'they were having trouble finding it.' Gah. Anyways, I'll see what I can swing before the end of the month but I'll be doing a lot of driving and hotel-staying so unsure if I'll be able to get to those unless the deadline is extended again.

You are really working hard for that one. The amount of time people are putting into that almost have me feeling guilty for getting it on the list.
