If any of you guys feel like you may need an extension (I think I sure do), then we can make that happen. I think I need a few weeks honestly. Now I have ten left, and yeah...a new date would help a lot.

Announcement/update: thebtskink and I were consulting a bit and decided to push the deadline for individual lists from 11/28 to 12/31. Because it seems like quite a few of you (skink and myself included) need some extra time to watch or re-watch what you need to, in some cases because you simply need to get your hands on a copy of one film or another. So, hopefully, an extra month will help out with that. Of course, if you happen to finish your list before then, by all means go ahead and send it in. But this is to take some pressure off while also accounting for the holidays.
Dracula, obviously this doesn't apply to you.

I'll hopefully have my Google survey up by then as well. I got some stay-cation days coming up that i may have some extra time in between Xmas shopping.

Down to seven first-watches, plus a few re-watches.
Come and See, Chungking Express and The Double Life of Veronique were the latest ones to be crossed off the list. I'm still kind of in a daze over Come and See (watched it Wednesday), with particular scenes and moments seared into my memory. Safe to say, I never need to watch it again, though. And California Dreamin was stuck in my head for a while thanks to Chungking Express. But I liked it. Veronique...I think I mostly just admired.

Come and See operates on nightmare logic in the best possible way. Outstanding film.

I thought Come and See would be the kind of movie I wouldn't be too keen to revisit, but I actually do think I'd like to see it again.

Fifth Element held up as well as I expected it to...which is to say, not at all.
Also, Cinema Paradiso is back on Paramount+...but it's the nearly 3-hour Director's Cut. Would people still recommend that one over the theatrical?

Age of Innocence is fine.
Ang Lee's Sense and Sensibility two years later is vastly superior though.

Been meaning to rewatch Sense and Sensibility so I won't throw shade, but Age of Innocence is almost top-tier Scorsese. It's not in the "Godly" section with Taxi Driver, Raging Bull and Goodfellas, but it's near the top of the very next rung.

I just remember it being a stuffy costume drama.

I just remember it being a stuffy costume drama. You should give it another shot. I thought something similar on a first viewing but my rewatch was revelatory. The performances (DDL was nominated for the wrong movie in 1993), the cinematography, THE SCORE! It's beautiful.

Been meaning to rewatch Sense and Sensibility so I won't throw shade, but Age of Innocence is almost top-tier Scorsese. It's not in the "Godly" section with Taxi Driver, Raging Bull and Goodfellas, but it's near the top of the very next rung. Age of Innocence is good, but it still for me suffers from what most of these 19th-century period pieces do in that the conflicts surrounding these characters feel so trivial and bogged down in the mannerisms of the times. Obviously this is how matchmaking occurred, but I still get PTSD to when we had to read Ethan Frome in middle school and every page made me angrier, wanting to reach out and shake him to JUST FUCKING DO SOMETHING SHE'S RIGHT THERE AND CLEARLY WANTS YOUR HOT SWEET LOVING! It was the same reaction I had to A Room with a View, which eventually wore me down with its "non-conflict conflict" despite strong performances at its core. Sense and Sensibility however doesn't feel this way to me. The issues aren't borne out of reluctances or misinterpretations but class struggles and moral obligations (though Age of Innocence does this too since the issue is around the cousin of his wife). There's a lot of energy to the film as well, and the cast all around is absolutely terrific and flourish under Emma Thompson's excellent screenplay. I like Age of Innocence, but if I'm rolling with a stuffy period piece from the '90s I'm going Sense and Sensibility, with Howard's End and Age of Innocence close behind.
