Oh boy was The Thin Red Line fucking godly on a rewatch. I'll stick with Saving Private Ryan.
Watched Das Boot today (had to split it into two halves), and wow, did that one live up to the hype. Wolfgang Petersen's direction in that is phenomenal.

Haven't had much time for rewatches with so many first watches this time.
I did just rewatch Chungking Express, though with my Criterion trial sub.
God it's so great.

Imagining a movie played as romantic with the latter half of Chungking gender-flipped

Just finished a rewatch of Ghostbusters, in part for anticipation of seeing Afterlife tomorrow. My thoughts on it still largely hold true, but I WILL say that it has a tightly structured screenplay, which is something I don’t really think I’ve acknowledged before.

Anyone have a method to watch All About My Mother other than renting it? Sure it's only a few bucks to rent but I'm one of those people who gets miffed having to pay to rent something on top of the subscriptions to Netflix, Hulu, HBO Max, Criterion Channel and Amazon Prime (which should be streaming All About My Mother but it's fucked up and hasn't been fixed). Does that make sense? Not really but it's the principle, dammit!

Also, where are other people, movie-watching wise? I watched Kagemusha last night, which leaves me at 11 first-watches still to go, and I don't think I'm getting those all in before Sunday.

You would think that some libraries in Los Angeles would have it but alas, the only one available is about 15 miles away and 15 Los Angeles miles is equal to 400 miles anywhere else. Sno probably grabbed the only copy.

The only ones I've got left are All About My Mother, Mishima: A Life In Four Chapters and, sigh, Fanny and Alexander.

If any of you guys feel like you may need an extension (I think I sure do), then we can make that happen.

So the funny thing is that LA County Public Libraries is vast and wide and covers many, many different areas...except mine which has its own library system even though I live in LA County. Not sure how that happened but my little town is its own separate entity which is surrounded by LA County on all other sides. Although I guess it wouldn't hurt to ask whether they work hand in with LA County or if they hate each other.

I'm about an hour into Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters and one of the most striking things about it is Philip Glass's score...the opening piece of which I swear I've heard used in some other movie.
EDIT: Wait! It was at the end of The Truman Show!
