Also, as a character, Caine really isn't all that sympathetic
That's an understatement, dude's a monster. In Goodfellas terms he's basically the Robert De Niro to O-Dog's Joe Pesci.

That unlikability plays really well in contrast to something like Boyz N the Hood. I quite like that movie but it makes it very clear that its hero is a nice boy in a rough environment. Menace doesn't go easy on its audience.

Decided to remove my last post. Shit was too long.
I'm almost done my watches for this thread. Only rewatches I feel I really need to do are Platoon and The Thin Red Line. I might also do Hard Boiled again just for fun and some more Spielberg to cross them off this movie chart my partner and I have been crossing off but that's bonus.
And I'm still waiting for my All About My Mother blu-ray.

I was at the grocery store and saw you posted something on Saving Private Ryan, read one paragraph and decided to save the rest for later. What a tease.

Will ask if people need extensions as we get closer. I have a week long staycation in two weeks where I can probably knock out some more, but due to life Das Boot took me all last weekend. Still have like 15-20, including Three Colors and Fanny and Alexander. Yes, working through what I need to watch, but might need short extension. I’ll do what I can to be done by deadline, though.

1 first time watch left, 2 rewatches. I've also put together a first draft list excluding the three upcoming watches. Definitely enjoying stretching out the process.

I'm down to 15 first-watches still to go after watching Princess Mononoke on Tuesday. I may need a slight extension, but we'll see.

Just finished Akira. Well...that movie sure got fucking insane as it went on. And I mean that in a good way.

L.A. Confidential was way better than I expected. Hell of a cast, but the story is great and loved the noir-callback shots.

Paris, Texas was my AFI-watch last night. Out of all the first-watches I've done for this list so far, that one is easily my favorite. So quiet and understated, yet so absorbing. And those last twenty-five minutes or so...wow.

Got some embarrassingly high movies on the list I still have to see... Total of 14 left for me for a first time watch.

Mowing through the list. Just wrapped up Double Life of Some Broad.
Did Princess Mononoke last night. The Fly is next, followed by Dirty Work.

Goddamnit...
Clearly, I should've jumped on Once Upon a Time in America while it was on Netflix recently. Now it's gone, and I can't find it streaming anywhere. Argh!

It's on Netflix and Amazon Prime in Canada. If you sign up for a vpn, maybe use a free trial that might be the best way to watch.

Jesus fucking Christ, even a physical disc is currently unavailable through Netflix and blind buying a copy via Amazon is impossible without dropping a ton of money... What the hell?

Can't you just pay the $4 for a rental on Apple or Youtube/GooglePlay? I literally just found it as an option on Youtube.
In my defense, I normally don't think to look on there for movie rentals.
