Snobs. All of ya. I just made a 25 minute pro-Kevin Smith video. Only 25 minutes? A real Kevin Smith video would have made it to 37.

Criterion won't legitimize itself until we see releases of Yoga Hosers and Transformers: The Complete Epic Saga. Only 25 minutes? A real Kevin Smith video would have made it to 37. I have a good 37 joke in it. Check out the video essay thread if you're interested. I'll take a glance at it when I get some free time. Thanks for the heads up.

Jaws is a top 10 movie all time, and is Spielberg's best.

For all its problems, the first Hobbit movie is actually the best of the three. Bilbo actually has an arc (even if it hurts the trilogy that it's resolved so early), the focus is more fully on Bilbo and the Dwarves, and there's less pointless action than the sequels.
All three movies kind of suck, but I'd say the first film sucks the least.

2nd Hobbit movie with the Dragon was up to the caliber of effects from Lord of the Rings.
Still can't believe how much I enjoy that flick.

I was bored to death by Hobbit.
Couldn’t finish watching Hobbit 2.
Never watched Hobbit 3.

1st one was the most sincere to the literature, second one was the best despite being 5% Tolkien. Jackson shat on his own legacy.

Whole Hobbit enterprise was wack. Personally I probably prefer the second because it had a giant dragon in it and that goes a long way. I could be biased though because I watched the first one in 48fps 3D and it was a horrid experience. Watched the second and third on blu-ray and could mess around on the computer during the boring parts and that made them a little more enjoyable (though the third one is particularly pathetic).

Part of me pines for the Del Toro version, but I still think it would have been a bloated mess even with him at the helm.

Watched the second and third on blu-ray and could mess around on the computer during the boring parts and that made them a little more enjoyable (though the third one is particularly pathetic). The Smaug scene starts out pretty awesome, but eventually becomes a bloated and tired mess before ending on a non-climax. Well, yeah. I was bored to death by Hobbit. Couldn’t finish watching Hobbit 2. Never watched Hobbit 3. So...you'd agree the first one is, by default, the best. Part of me pines for the Del Toro version, but I still think it would have been a bloated mess even with him at the helm. Part of me pines for the Del Toro version, but I still think it would have been a bloated mess even with him at the helm. Del Toro dropping out of that was the smartest thing he ever did. The project was beneath him. Lindsay Ellis' video essay on The Hobbit (which I highly recommend if you have the time and are interested in the clusterfuck) suggests that Del Toro didn't actually "leave voluntarily" so much as he was forced out when New Line wanted to make something more in line with the Lord of the Rings. I do agree that The Hobbit was destine to underwhelm compared to LOTR, but from the looks of things, Del Toro was going for a more fairly tale tone in terms of style and visuals. That'd at least be more consistent than the current trilogy, which mixes epic battle scenes and "WARRRRRR" with troll farting and a wizard with bird poop on his head. Also, when Del Toro was envolved it was only gonna be two movies. At the end of the day, I think studio politics would have torpedoed The Hobbit regardless, but in a perfect world where Del Toro could make the movie(s) he wanted, I think he'd have created something of worth.

Rutger Hauer passed away.
If you can get past the music, I highly recommend Richard Donner’s Ladyhawke

Okay, so I don't imagine this will sound crazy to any of you who know me after all these years. Maybe more of a "This wasn't already true?" kind of thing.
But...
After 15 years, now-ten (count 'em TEN) theater viewings, countless other times on DVD/Blu Ray/TV, and the fact that I still get the same level of pure joy out of that I did way back with my first viewing on June 4th, 2004...I can't deny or ignore it anymore.
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban has gotta be -- got to be -- one of my All-Time Favorite Movies. I won't go so far as to say Top 10-worthy, but Top 20 or Top 30? There's a slot in there somewhere for it.
It just speaks to me in a certain way. And I'm not saying this lightly.
