Airplane is one of those movies whose praise I just never understood. I get it, I understand it's silly and 'don't call me Shirley' and 'do you like gladiator movies?' and all that stuff. It's just not as funny as its reputation suggests. Even as a kid I knew Naked Gun was a way funnier movie. Let’s just agree Top Secret is better than all of them.

Do people still think that Blade 2 is better than Blade 1? I understand the appeal, but I think Blade 1 has a better balance of story and action. Blade 2 feels excessive to me. Combine that with Guillermo Del Toro's visual indulgences and I have to wonder if the script was longer than 30 pages. I'm not hating on Blade 2. There's a lot of awesome things about it. It just doesn't flow as well as the original. And it doesn't have any iconic scenes either. The opening club scene from part 1 is the highlight of the series. I haven't seen any of the Blade films in years. Been meaning to revisit them. I will say the club scene from the first film is burned into my brain. That club scene is really cool, but the first movie just kind of turns into a fairly run of the mill late-90s comic action movie from there. Blade 2 on the other hand is just so jam-packed for of interesting (and yes, indulgent) ideas that it makes up for it and I think the distribution of action and quality coreography is more even. That having been said both movies have their flaws and there are probably more sort of groan-worthy misfires throughout the second movie. IDK, I wouldn't hold up either film as a classic or anything but the Del Toro-isms make 2 stand out more. DraculaBlade 2 has three major action scenes before it even gets to the plot. Blade 1 has that club scene and then proceeds to actually tell a story. I think Del Toro felt pressure to deliver a commercial movie and tried to pack it with as much spectacle as possible. I haven't even thought of the Blade movies since college. Blade is not a movie that needs to be analyzed this closely. It's a movie about a cool dude stabbing vampires while wearing sunglasses and a sick leather jacket, that delivers on everything that description implies and nothing more. Also, this approach of looking at this as some kind of entry in the history of comic book movies is misguided. This isn't really a Marvel movie and isn't a superhero movie any more than Road to Perdition or something. Blade is not a movie that needs to be analyzed this closely. That company, or subsidiary, is now reduced to just the X-Men but it is what started the modern superhero genre. Whether you want to give the credit to Blade, X-Men or Spider-Man is ultimately irrelevant cause they're all produced by Avi Arad.

I didn't laugh at all. The movie is like the boner comedy version of MASH. Not the worst idea ever but I found it painfully unfunny.

Call me crazy, but Stripes is a piece of shit. I'll take it a step further. Most of the 'classic' 70s and 80s comedies are pretty bad. Stripes, well it's certainly not great by any stretch but it's better than most. Caddyshack is a piece of shit. Porky's is the same. Beverly Hills Cop is a big turd that I feel people enjoy just to get along, there's really nothing good or clever or funny about the movie. Even the first Vacation movie offers few legit laughs, most are pretty forced or telegraphed jokes. It's always baffled me why people hold a lot of these movies to such high esteem, most are crap. Animal House on the other hand, now that's a goddamn funny movie.

I saw Stripes back in 2010, but it clearly didn't leave much of a mark since I can't remember my thoughts on it one way or the other.

Call me crazy... But now that I have seen "The Last Jedi" at least 4 times. I find it to be my 2nd favorite Star Wars film, it might even be tied with "Empire Strikes Back" which is my favorite.
I'll take the hate.

You want a crazy Star Wars opinion? Return of the Jedi annoys the shit out of me. Way more than anything in the prequels.

Steal your lunch money I have no problem with Ewoks. Warwick Davis is pretty awesome. It's just the movie...bugs me. The Jabba the Hut scenes just put me in a bad mood and I just sit there so angry at it for the rest of its runtime. I actually tried watching it in two halves once, and that actually went okay. But I can watch every other Star Wars movie in one sitting except goddamn Return of the Jedi.

Eh, I've seen plenty of people not care for Return of the Jedi.
How about this. I think the first movie is a bit boring and silly. Was Lucas ever a good writer?

Well...the first movie IS a bit boring and silly. I think the storyline is a bit simplistic and lacks "direction," I guess. The ending dogfight is good, but it doesn't really have much of a resolution. That and I don't really think the whole Jedi aspect works in it. It's just a fantasy element that is there for some reason, and in the end it doean't matter much. Sure you have Zombie Won Kebobi saying "Use the Force" at the end causing Luke to shoot blindly, but that always lacked to me what I assume most feel is "magic."
It's enjoyable in spite of itself though. But take the source into account when I say this, because I'm not really a Star Wars guy. I actually assume that's why I liked The Last Jedi as much as I did.
