Although plans are still underway for Alcon Entertainment to bring to the big screen a sequel to Ridley Scott’s 1982 sci-fi classic Blade Runner, Scott today reveals to Variety that he is no longer targeting the director’s chair. Having already helped develop the screenplay alongside Hampton Fancher (who, with David Peoples, wrote the original film), Scott remains very active in the sequel’s development, but now says his plan is to serve only as producer with a helmer expected to be announced in the near future. “We talked at length about what it could be,” Scott tells the trade of the sequel’s story, “and came up with a pretty strong three-act storyline.” The project, which is planned to go into production next year, should feature the return of Harrison Ford as Rick Deckard. Scott has a few potential spoilers, too, regarding Deckard’s specific role in the story. “Harrison is very much part of this one,” Scott continues, “But it’s really about finding him. He comes in in the third act.”
Released by Warner Bros., Blade Runner is based on Philip K. Dick’s novel “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?” The film was nominated for two Academy Awards (Best Visual Effects and Best Art Direction). Scott’s latest, Exodus: Gods and Kings, hits theaters December 12 with his next, The Martian already on track for a November 25, 2015 release. Alcon Entertainment acquired the film, television and ancillary franchise rights in 2011 from producer Bud Yorkin to produce prequels and sequels to the iconic science-fiction thriller. Yorkin will serve as a producer on the sequel along with Kosove and Johnson. Cynthia Sikes Yorkin will co-produce. Frank Giustra and Tim Gamble, CEOs of Thunderbird Films, will serve as executive producers. www.comingsoon.net/movies/news/386733-ridley-scott-will-not-direct-blade-runner-sequel-shares-story-details

Since the novel is a one-off, I don't see how this would work.

What does that have to do with anything.

“Harrison is very much part of this one,” Scott continues, “But it’s really about finding him. He comes in in the third act.” LOL! Isn't that the plot for Star Wars: The Force Awakens? Just cancel this movie. It's gonna be awful.

Also, I don't get your poll at all. It refers to that age-old question to which we will never receive a definitive answer: Is Dekkard an android, or is he one of the other 21st century mobile phone operating systems? Though now I think about it, we probably will receive a definitive answer when the sequel pisses all over the original's legacy.

Watch them ruin the ambiguity of the first and hit you over the head with a hammer by having 400 Harrison Ford clones.

Can they also be tap dancing?
I'd see it.

Not that Ridley has exactly been on his game recently and eventually can't always be excused for being the director of "Alien" and "Blade Runner" to merit him, but the fact he's not directing it makes me very wary here. Scott should be chomping at the bit to direct this (seriously, no one cares about "Exodus") and follow up his masterpiece but isn't, and if the story is "pretty good" then why not direct? I want this to be great, hell I'd even take "pretty good", but I'm not hopeful at this moment.

Doubt it, Ridley Scott needs this more than ever since "Exodus" is getting railed by critics.

This... may not end up being a disaster after all. I'm kind of excited now. We're years away from this being completed, but I'm intrigued at the direction it's going.

Not sure how I feel about this one. I think Blade Runner is something that can not be replicated (hehe). Even with Scott on board I think this will end up like Prometheus. So much potential, a few nostalgic shots but overall just a let down.

Blade Runner is one of my favourite movies. I love the soundtrack and the filmography was ahead of its time. This movie came out in 1982.
I have my doubts as to whether the current film making crowd could to the original any justice whatsoever, it is most likely just another cash grab.

Well it's certainly going to be tough (damn near impossible) to match the original, but I wouldn't write this film off just yet. I think the real question is how much will the sequel attempt to emulate from the original and how much will it do to set itself apart. I'm figuring that atmosphere-wise they're going to really follow closely to the original and not deviate from that dark tone, but the story might be spruced up a bit more this time around and the film will likely be a lot more inviting in comparison to the cold shoulder the original gives the viewer. But I'm figuring Gosling to be just as distant (and sometimes uninterested) as Ford was in the original, so really until we hear details of an actual plot and what Gosling's character does there's not even much to speculate on.

They did great work together on "Prisoners", this is awesome news. I feel more confident in the project with each piece of news that filters in.
