I saw not too long ago that Criterion announced that they were releasing a film called 'Nightmare Alley' in May. Having never heard of the movie I glanced by it but then reading a bit about it I heard it had a pretty solid reputation in the film noir pantheon. I couldn't find it available anywhere but YouTube and decided to give it a watch. It's a flawed but different, sometimes disturbing little noir that gains a full star because of its full-circle ending, one that's just as bleak as any noir but also offers a little ray of hope that you don't always get. Anyways, if anyone wanted to give it a whirl here's where I found it (it wasn't available on any other streaming service). But then I immediately discovered after watching it that Guillermo del Toro just finished shooting a remake, currently in post-production and slated for a December release. The cast is pretty stacked and after seeing the original about a side-show hustler who tries to make it in the big time as a medium/scam artist I think del Toro might be the right man for the job. Anyways, someone else watch this movie so I'm not the only one talking about it. And with some luck this will help get the taste of Shape of Water out of my mouth.

Yes. Also, Doomsday, funny you mention the new criterion release of the older one. I blind bought it this summer because the cover looked fucking awesome.

I picked it up in July and I could tell that the disc was loose that pissed me off. When I opened it up I saw it wasn't the disc, they just sent along a bunch of playing cards (they play in the movie) as little souvenirs which is kinda weird. But yeah the cover is rad. Have you watched it yet?
