Origin movie about Buzz Lightyear, voiced by Chris Evans. Summer 2022.
This gets me super excited. For years, and ever since the animated show, I've thought a Buzz Lightyear movie would have so much potential. Pixar agrees.

If the Toy Story universe has a real life Star Command and Emperor Zurg, I'm going to laugh with glee.
But I think this is probably likely "If someone made an actual movie based on Buzz Lightyear lore, this is what it would be."

Was that in the movies? I don't recall them ever mentioning any of that. So Lightyear doesn't have Emperor Zerg and all that? Or it does? As far as I know it's never really established what the Buzz Lightyear toy was based off of, but it had some sort of generic "toy lore" created for it to spark a child's imagination, like He-Man and Transformers. I always imagined Buzz was one of those "toy first" concepts that just snowballed because of how popular it was, eventually maybe getting a cartoon in Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, if you want to make that show "canon." I imagine this movie is like the nostalgia play reboot version of the character aimed at kids like Andy who grew up with Buzz Lightyear, like Michael Bay's Transformers. |

When he announced it during the Investors Call, Pete Docter (the head of Pixar), said something like: "Back when we conceived the first Toy Story, we always imagined that the Buzz Lightyear toy came from a popular blockbuster film within that universe. Now, almost thirty years later, it's time for us to make that film."
So Buzz, Emperor Zurg and all that supposedly come from Lightyear, the movie which is now being made by Pixar. The Toy Buzz we know is based off an in-universe fictional space hero who came from this movie.

They're doubling down on correcting that now with this movie. |
