Even Paul Dano’s Riddler is portrayed as a young adult. This is arguably the first Gen-Z Batman since the cutoff year for millennials is generally 1996. That now begs the question. Did we ever get a proper Millennial Batman? I don’t know if Christian Bale counts as one. Bale’s Batman felt so old, especially in comparison to Tobey Maguire Spider-Man who was 100% a Millennial character. Spider-Man 2 literally came out a year prior to Batman Begins and those two characters seem at least 10 years apart in age. Ben Affleck Batman is definitely a Gen-X Batman. You could argue the same for Val Kilmer and George Clooney even though those movies came out like 20 years apart. Michael Keaton is the Baby Boomer Batman. Adam West is Silent Generation Batman and that 60’s show is certainly the embodiment of a Silent Generation show. In Batman Begins could not have been older than ten when his parents are shot. It's then established that Chill is paroled and then shot fourteen years after that, meaning that Wayne is 24 at that point. He then spends seven years seven years traveling and tangling with the league of shadows. That means he's 31 when he gets back to Gotham. Assuming that's the "present" at that point and it's 2005, that would mean he was born in 1976. Bale was born in 1974, so actor and character are about the same age and firmly gen x. Not so sure that the Pattinson Batman is a zoomer though. Bruce Wayne almost certainly went to college, meaning he was at least twenty two before spending some time traveling afterwards (which is pretty central to all Batman origin stories) that means he has to be at least twenty six or twenty seven when he started wearing the suit. This being a "year two" story that puts him at around thirty, so born 1991, which is a young millennial age. |

It's not the kind of game with, like, heavy dialogue and exposition and the storytelling is very much in line with how the developer handled it in previous games. I highly doubt GRRM spent much time on this. I think they just paid him to show up and geek out with the developers for a bit, chat with them about their ideas for a day or so, then put his name on it to get the "normies" interested. |
