Bro... Blade II of course. Superman IV: The Quest for Peace doesn't have a single redeeming factor. None. Nuclear Man

Blade II
Del Toro takes what could easily have been a lackluster sequel and elevates it beyond it's predictable script.
Superman IV makes me sad. Not only is it a terrible movie and an embarrassing end to Christopher Reeves' run as Superman, but it set in motion a complicated chain of events that has plagued Superman on film to this very day. I've seen the entire movie, but never from beginning to end, all at once. It's just too painful to endure for more than a few minutes at a time.

Superman IV makes me sad. I've seen the entire movie, but never from beginning to end, all at once. It's just too painful to endure for more than a few minutes at a time. Growing up, and of course this is entirely anecdotal, Superman II and IV were the most common on TV. Probably cause they were the most "action packed" of the series. Superman would pop up every now and then. So would Supergirl. If there was a full moon, mayyybeee Superman III would air. SnoBorderZero disagrees, but I always think of that one as the black sheep of the series. Until YouTube came along and "Evil Superman" became a meme, I never knew anyone that brought up that movie. Almost as if it didn't exist. But anyway, I watched Superman II and IV quite a bit as a kid and enjoyed them both. Yeah, Superman IV is a cheaply produced Cannon Film and there's a lot to mock about it, but the Nuclear Man stuff mostly works in a cheesy sorta way. If you're a kid you'll get into it. I wouldn't blame Superman IV for that. There's been opportunities and Warner Bros mostly pussied out. They should have made Tim Burton's Superman. In 1998, with little competition and pre-Marvel, it would have been a hit. They could have also done the J.J. Abrams/McG/Brett Ratner Superman: Flyby. It would have been better than Superman Returns, and pre-MCU, and would have been a hit. And they could have done a proper sequel to Man of Steel instead of that Batman vs Superman nonsense.

The failure of Superman IV (along with MoTU) to perform at the box office is one of the primary reasons Cannon went bankrupt and sold the Superman movie license to Jon Peters.

Video essay coming soon I could actually see myself doing a very short video on the first Superman and what does and doesn't bother me about the spinning the world backwards and travelling through time schtick.

THE FINAL VOTE:Blade III love Superman IV for being one of the most hilarious films ever made, though Blade II is a legit fun movie that was designed to be that way. While there are things about it that made me go "ugh" even when it came out (that CGI is shit), it's definitely a good movie to pop in on a moody weekend. Throwing my love to del Toro on this one. The ScoreSuperman IV: The Quest for Peace: 2 Blade II: 6WINNER:MARVELCan you blush? Superman's request for a rematch with Blade is met with Blade shrugging his shoulders, then using his new kryptonite sword to slice Superman's head off. Marvel finally takes the lead with its first sequel. DC: 3 Marvel: 4 Draw: 1ROUND 9!
IN THIS CORNERSuperheroes: Dick Durock as Swamp Thing Supervillains: Louis Jourdan as Anton Arcane, Sarah Douglas as Dr. Lana Zurrell, Ace Mask as Dr. Rochelle, Monique Gabrielle as Ms. Poinsettia, Joey Sagal as Gunn, Christopher Doyle as Leechman Civilians: Heather Locklear as Abigail Arcane, Daniel Taylor as Darryl, RonReaco Lee as Omar Run Time: 1 Hour 28 Minutes Director: Jim Wynorski (Chopping Mall) Writer: Neil Cuthbert, Grant Morris Music: Chuck Cirino Cinematography: Zoran Hochstatter Tomatometer: 44% IMDB: 4.7 Razzies Won: Worst Actress - Heather Locklear Story: Somehow Anton Arcane is no longer a monster and/or is stabbed to death with a sword, and is now back to his dastardly experiments in immortality, which have led to monstrous human/animal hybrids called Un-Men. But now he is visited by his estranged step-daughter Abigail, who, while aware that Arcane is a not very nice person, is ignorant of just how deeply evil he truly is. When he begins to plan further experiments around her, the former-man/current-plant-creature Swamp Thing comes to the rescue. Alone in the swamp, a romance between Abigail and Swamp Thing blossoms. Pros: Neverending will 100% vote for this movie. Cons: Pretty epic, but not as epic as Chopping Mall. AND IN THIS CORNERSuperheroes: Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker/Spider-Man Supervillains: Willem Dafoe as Norman Osborne/Green Goblin Civilians: Kirsten Dunst as Mary Jane Watson, James Franco as Harry Osborne, J.K. Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson, Cliff Robertson as Ben Parker, Rosemary Harris as May Parker, Elizabeth Banks as Betty Brant, Ted Raimi as Hoffman Run Time: 2 Hours 1 Minute Director: Sam Raimi (The Evil Dead, Evil Dead II, Army of Darkness, Darkman, A Simple Plan, Drag Me to Hell) Writer: David Keopp (Jurassic Park, The Lost World: Jurassic Park, Mission: Impossible, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull) Music: Danny Elfman (Men in Black) Cinematographer: Don Burgess (Forrest Gump, Castaway, Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, The Conjuring 2) Tomatometer: 90% IMDB: 7.3 Oscars Nominated: Best Sound, Best Visual Effects Story: After being bitten by a genetically altered spider on a school field trip, Peter Parker begins to develop super powers. When his arrogance leads to the death of his uncle, Peter chooses to use his powers to fight crime on the streets of New York City. But his limits will be tested as millionaire Norman Osborn has tested an experimental formula on himself which gives him exceptional strength but is also driving him mad, which leads him to become the villainous Green Goblin and terrorize the city. Pros: Doomsday hates it, which means it's outstanding. Cons: Doomsday won't vote for this movie, so without hearing a word from him I'm counting him as a vote for Return of Swamp Thing. FIGHT!

In that case i switch my vote to Return of the Swamp Thing after perusing Jim Wyrnorski's IMDb. I can't vote against the luminary behind The Bare Wench Project (and 3 sequels!), Cleavagefield, and The Da Vinci Coed.

It's worth watching the Joe Bob version of Chopping Mall just to see him list out some of these titles on camera. Also, Chopping Mall is fucking great.

I can't vote against the luminary behind The Bare Wench Project (and 3 sequels!), Cleavagefield, and The Da Vinci Coed. Check out the documentary on him, Popatopolis. Neverending watched it for the film club. Popatopolis (2009)You can rent this documentary, featuring Stormy Daniels, on Amazon for $5.99 or own it for $7.99. I hate when they do shit like that. They really wanna trick people into buying this shit. Oh, well. Whatever. Might as well use that Trump money to “stimulate the economy.” What better stimulation than Stormy Daniels. Am I right? Well, color me surprised. This documentary is a riot. It follows the chaotic 3-day shoot of the softcore porno the Witches of Breastwick (2005). The director Jim Wynorski started his career in the 1980’s making B-movie classics such as Chopping Mall and Deathstalker II. In the the 90’s he discovered Jennifer Love Hewitt, although she’ll never admit to it. By the 2000’s he found himself directing a healthy rotation of softcore porn, Syfy schlock and direct-to-video children’s movies. So diverse. As mentioned earlier, the documentary follows the 3-day shoot of Breastwick and its production would have made Ed Wood proud. I was howling at the stupidity, incompetence, awkwardness and ingenuity that it took to get this garbage made. It’s inspiring! Worth spending Trump’s money on.
