PhantomKnight is the most sincere person in this place. Dude’s unapologetic about the shit he likes, even if it’s a toilet bowl full of diarrhea. Dracula, on the other hand, is a snob with a capital S and will purposely hate anything he considers to be low-class. Here’s the perfect personification of Dracula: Pretty sure Drac loves Star Wars. At least this isn't your tucked scrotum video. You're growing. That's for Patrons only.

Forget playing it safe. How about simply being honest? Do you honestly think that BvS (UC) is better, or are you just allowing your inner rebellious teen out? I honestly admire it more. It takes bigger swings, even if not all of them pay off the way they're intended to.
The Avengers is still a good movie, but overrated.
Now I'm genuinely curious. What "bigger swings" than The Avengers do you feel BvS took?

Pretty sure Drac loves Star Wars. Star Wars isn’t the point. The point is that Siskel & Ebert were willing to judge a movie for what it is and what it offered to audiences. John Simon, on the other hand, was being spiteful & hateful because he considered it a movie for dumb children that’s popular with immature adults. No different than Dracula blind hating Pixar for years and then finally watching the movies but in a combative way. My point is that PhantomKnight doesn’t hate-watch movies or bring any agenda into it. If he likes it, he likes it. If he doesn’t, he doesn’t. The man is pure.

But he mostly liked the movies. He gave WALL-E a four star review and has only seemed to look more fondly with time. With the exception of Wall-E, which is the sole reason he went on a “skeptics journey” he said the movies weren’t for him. He arrived at the conclusion he expected. Which is fine. At least now he wasn’t blind hating. That’s progress. But do one of these threads or discussions in which we pit movies against each other and watch the claws come out. That was Wyldstaar ‘s initial comment towards PhantomKnight. Can you objectively say BvS is better than Avengers or is it just a personal preference, like 1godzillafan saying Ghost Rider 2 is “better” than Lego Movie. The fact that Dracula called out PhantomKnight is hypocritical. That’s all I’m getting at. There’s plenty of instances in which Dracula will shit on a well-liked movie in favor of his snob movies.

Technically that would also make Dracula one of the most sincere people in this place. Nah. Dracula will hate a movie out of spite. PhantomKnight would never do that. But the spite is REAL.

You may have been defending PhantomKnight but it came across as backhanded.

The Avengers is still a good movie, but overrated.
Now I'm genuinely curious. What "bigger swings" than The Avengers do you feel BvS took? Off the top of my head...that Zack Snyder doubles down on a dark, oppressive tone that, as Neverending said, attempts to "deconstruct" its two main heroes (we can argue all day over whether or not we thought it was successful, but my point is, it makes the effort). That it blithely does away with Batman's no-killing rule. I know lots of fans hated that, but I personally didn't mind it, because I thought it fit where the character was emotionally at that point in his life. Plus, it helped give us that rad warehouse fight scene, which is one of those kinds of fight scenes that made me want to stand up and cheer when it was over. And even though we knew it was obviously going to be reversed/undone, the movie ends on the downer note of Superman being dead. Those kinds of big swings. BvS OBVIOUSLY has flaws, but I can find just as much in there where I can look at and go, "Well, Zack, I can't accuse you of phoning this in." It also at least attempts to tackle a wider variety of themes.
The Avengers, while a good movie, still feels like another relatively safe MCU movie by comparison. The biggest swing it takes is probably killing Coulson. I'll acknowledge at the time that it felt like a more permanent death...until just over a year later, when they resurrected him to lead Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. So the movie's biggest shock is now unimportant. Let me be clear that I do like The Avengers, but it never struck me as anything overly impressive or significant outside of the fact that it was the first comic book movie to bring together multiple heroes from separate movies.

A Zack Snyder Batman movie would have been great. Most of the Batman scenes in BvS were pretty cool. Where Snyder failed is with Superman and everything related to him. Civil War, while flawed, at least did a good job of contrasting Iron Man and Captain America. There was no real difference between Batman and Superman. Both were dour.

like 1godzillafan saying Ghost Rider 2 is “better” than Lego Movie. Ghost Rider 2 is better than the Lego Movie. It's also better than Avengers and Batman v Superman. Let me put it this way, when I walked out of Ghost Rider 2, I was jazzed by the crappy good time I had. When I walked out of Avengers, I was like "That was fine." You can quote me on that too.
