Cause Darkman is actually really good, whereas Batman Returns is...not.

Cause Darkman is actually really good, whereas Batman Returns is...not. I don't get that logic.

I believe I can point to a 24 minute video that says otherwise. His argument is that Batman Returns is campy... but Darkman isn't.

My argument is Darkman is campy in a way that actually works and feels tonally consistent with the type of movie the director was trying to make.

How is Batman Returns tonally inconsistent? You know exactly what it is from the very first scene.

How is Batman Returns tonally inconsistent? Legit moments of pathos are frequently undercut or at odds with lots of silly ones.

It seems like Batman Returns is going up against X2: X-Men United, Nope. It's probably safe to say the Burton Batflicks are both going to win their rounds.

THE FINAL VOTE:Spider-ManNeither Swamp Thing is a great movie, but I've always preferred the second to the first because while it's complete camp, it has some flavor to it. But Spider-Man is loveably campy as well and still has captured my heart all these years latter, even with some underdeveloped screenplay woes. Spider-Man is just a blast of a superhero movie and hands down gets my vote. The ScoreThe Return of Swamp Thing: 2 Spider-Man: 8WINNER:MARVELWebs out the ass = organic webshooters. Doomsday's attempt to help Swamp Thing take a win before he bows out of the tournament fails as Spider-Man and the power of Sam Raimi are too much for the muck beast and the Jim Wynorski lover, and Marvel increases it's lead on DC. But DC's power play is just around the corner... DC: 3 Marvel: 5 Draw: 1ROUND 10!
IN THIS CORNERSuperheroes: Michael Keaton as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Michael Gough as Alfred Pennyworth Supervillains: Jack Nicholson as Jack Napier/Joker, Jack Palance as Carl Grissam, Tracey Walter as Bob Civilians: Kim Basinger as Vicki Vale, Pat Hingle as Commissioner James Gordon, Robert Wuhl as Alexander Knox, Billy Dee Williams as Harvey Dent Run Time: 2 Hours 6 Minutes Director: Tim Burton (Beetlejuice, Ed Wood, Edward Scissorhands) Writer: Sam Hamm (Monkeybone), Warren Skaaren (Beetlejuice, Beverly Hills Cop II) Music: Danny Elfman (Men in Black, Spider-Man) Cinematography: Roger Pratt (Monty Python's The Meaning of Life, Brazil, Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire) Tomatometer: 71% IMDB: 7.5 Oscars Won: Best Art Direction Golden Globes Nominated: Best Actor (Comedy/Musical) - Jack Nicholson Story: Jack Napier attempts to burn a paper trail at the Axis Chemical plant for his mob boss Carl Grissam, but finds himself double crossed when the police arrive upon Grissam's orders to have the corrupt cops kill Napier and his men. The standoff is interrupted by a masked vigilante known as "the Batman," who accidentally knocks Napier into a vat of chemicals that turns his skin chalk white. Renaming himself "the Joker," Napier kills Grissam and takes over Gotham City's underworld, with only Batman standing in his way. Pros: The Golden Globes considered this film a "Comedy or Musical." Let's roll with it. Cons: It kind of sucks. AND IN THIS CORNERSuperheroes: Will Smith as Agent J, Tommy Lee Jones as Kevin Brown/Agent K, Rip Torn as Agent Zed, Patrick Warburton as Agent T, Michael Jackson as Agent M, Time Blaney as Frank Supervillains: Lara Flynn Boyle as Serleena, Johnny Knoxville as Scrad, Johnny Knoxville as Charlie Civilians: Rosario Dawson as Laura Vasquez, Tony Shalhoub as Jack Jeebs, David Cross as Newton, Colombe Jacobson as Hailey, Peter Graves as Peter Graves Run Time: 1 Hour 28 Minutes Director: Barry Sonnenfeld (Men in Black) Writer: Robert Gordon (Galaxy Quest), Barry Fanaro (Kingpin, I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry) Music: Danny Elfman (Batman, Men in Black, Spider-Man) Cinematographer: Greg Gardiner (Elf, Son of the Mask) Tomatometer: 39% IMDB: 6.2 Razzies Nominated: Worst Supporting Actress - Lara Flynn Boyle Story: The Men in Black are faced with yet another world ending crisis when a power hungry alien named Serleena lands on Earth seeking the Light of Zartha, a mysterious object that could eventually destroy the planet if not found. But the only MIB agent that knows the location of the Light is the now retired Agent K, and Agent J is sent to restore is memories to hunt down the Light and stop Serleena. Pros: NOD YA HEAD! Black suits a comin'. Cons: It kind of sucks. FIGHT!

Batman
This Batman movie is what audiences were prepared for in 1989. If people had been given a version of these characters that was true to the comics, they couldn’t have handled it. I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve seen it.
MIB II missed the mark badly. I’ve seen it once in a theatre, and that was enough. I probably caught some of it on cable while channel surfing. The In Search of.. spoof running throughout the film is the best part of the movie.

I actually kind of have a soft spot for Men In Black II... I enjoy all the Men in Black movies, but yeah, I get the hate for the sequels. The original was something special and the sequels never even attempted to re-capture that.

With each passing day, IanTheCool reminds me of the minister who married Homer and Marge on the Simpsons. "Then, by the power vested in me by the state gaming commission, I pronounce you man and wife. Here's ten dollars worth of chips. You may kiss the bride. NEXT!" I actually kind of have a soft spot for Men In Black II... I enjoy all the Men in Black movies, but yeah, I get the hate for the sequels. The original was something special and the sequels never even attempted to re-capture that. Hot Take: The opening with Peter Graves is the best thing out of all the Men in Black movies and is better than just about anything in Batman.
