Like no filmic entity before it, corporate synergy is the name of the game at Marvel Studios, which is why many assumed that the inclusion of Guardians of the Galaxy footage during their big Avengers: Infinity War unveiling in October indicated that Star-Lord and co. were on their way to playing a major role in the conflict against Thanos. Not necessarily so, says James Gunn, who told MTV that Guardians of the Galaxy 2 will not pave the way for the encroaching battle over the Infinity Gauntlet. "I don’t feel beholden to that stuff at all," Gunn said. "I think it's really about the Guardians and what they are doing. We're not subservient to the Avengers. 'Guardians 2' is not a movie that's made to move toward 'Infinity War.' It's something that's made to move toward future cosmic movies, so I don't feel that that is something that affects me that much." Prior to the release of Guardians in August, Gunn told Sky Movies that he and Marvel had "talked about all sorts of possibilities for a crossover," and that he knew "what the basic plan is... it could always change at any minute." "That could or could not include a couple of Avengers and a couple of Guardians meeting up, or all of the Avengers and all of the Guardians," he added during the July interview. "But, we do inhabit the same universe and they're pretty big personalities that are likely to, at some point or another, run into each other." After the first film crossed the three-quarters-of-a-billion-dollars line at the worldwide box office, it's possible Gunn and Marvel feel like the characters are capable of pulling their own weight and don't need to be tied in so snugly with Tony Stark and his fabulous freak brothers. While an Avengers crossover with both the Guardians and Nova Corps feels inevitable, especially as the cosmic aspects of the MCU spill over, it looks like the second galactic entry will be a standalone adventure. Whether there will be ties to 2018's Captain Marvel and Inhumans is another story altogether... To be written and directed by James Gunn, Guardians of the Galaxy 2 will once again feature Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, and Bradley Cooper as unlikely heroes who must team up in order to defeat a cosmic force of epic proportions. It will be released on May 5, 2017. The first Guardians of the Galaxy will be available on Blu-ray on December 9. Avengers: Infinity War Part I will be released on May 4, 2018, with Part II arriving one year later on May 3, 2019. www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=125139

I'm looking forward to it, just not as much as I am a lot of the other movies coming up. However, they do probably pose our best bet at developing more of Thanos and Adam Warlock and the myth behind the rest of the stones and everything like that before Avengers 3. So while I'm not 100% on board with the Guardians themselves, I do think these films can fill in a lot of the gaps in the mythology and I appreciate that.

Truth is Couldn't they use a new member in 2 and make it a Women. They Could add Warlock but why not have A women join the team too. I men Groot might still be growing and he will be full size again for Avengers PART 2.

It's a strong possibility that at some point in the sequel, the identity of Quill's father is going to come up. It's already been stated by Gunn that King J-son of Spartax will not be Star-Lord's dad in the MCU. I'm not overly familiar with the cosmic characters from the comics, but I know a few. The Inhumans have a royal family, so Black Bolt is a possibility. The Shi'ar Empire has a royal line as well which has changed over the years, and I've read conflicting reports as to whether or not their movie rights are held by Fox or Marvel Studios. It's also possible however, that Marvel Studios will make a previously non-royal character into one of some sort. If that happens, it could be anyone from Adam Warlock to Zarin.

I'm just excited to see these characters on screen. They all have great chemistry between them. That's the big reason the first movie worked.

Matthew McConaughey Turns Down Guardians of the Galaxy 2 Villain Role
Amid yesterday’s Variety report on French actress Pom Klementieff joining the cast of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 came word that Marvel Studios had also offered the lead villain role in the film to none other than Mister Alright Alright Alright himself, Matthew McConaughey… who wound up turning it down. While Oscar-winner McConaughey nixing the part is by no means a surprise (he is quite the big star, you know), it tells us several things about this “villain” role. For one, going after an actor of McConaughey’s caliber means it must be a very, very important character, with an eye to possibly playing an even bigger role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. For another, going after the ethereal/spiritual thespian could also indicate that whatever character he would have played might be Peter Quill’s mysterious (as his dying mother said, “angelic”) father hinted at in the first Guardians of the Galaxy. With writer/director James Gunn having already stated that Quill’s dad from the comics, J’son (also known as “Jason of Spartax”, Emperor of the Spartoi Empire) is not the pater familias of the Quill family, fans have glommed onto theories such as Nova or Starfox, but I think (based on pure speculation) the most likely culprit for the villain role/papa Quill is none other than Adam Warlock! “But Warlock isn’t a villain!” you say. Well, that’s right, but in the comics when Warlock gained possession of the Soul Gem, he eventually dealt with a future version of himself known as Magus. Did I mention Magus is evil? That means if the Guardians team up with Warlock (who has close ties to Gamora) to fight Magus, and it is later revealed that Warlock is Quill’s father, it would not be quite the Star Wars-ian “Evil Guy is your dad” thing that Gunn is trying to avoid. As it is, Warlock’s cocoon (see picture on right) was seen briefly in The Collector’s vault during the post-credits scene in Thor: The Dark World, and we can only assume that during the explosion in Guardians that thing broke open. Confused yet? So far over the course of twelve MCU films, they have revealed four of the Infinity Stones that Thanos has been coveting (Space, Reality, Mind, Power), and Marvel producer Jeremy Latcham has stated that Phase 3 will see the final two remaining stones (Soul & Time) brought to fruition. Since Warlock is so closely tied to the Soul Gem and plays such a critical – one might even say the MOST vital – role in the “Infinity Gauntlet” comics, then it stands to reason that Guardians 2 would be the ideal place to reveal him before Avengers: Infinity War. The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 cast will once again feature Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, and Bradley Cooper as unlikely heroes who must team up in order to defeat a cosmic force of epic proportions. James Gunn is back as director and writer for the sequel, which is expected to start shooting in early 2016 for a May 5, 2017 release date. Guardians of the Galaxy opened in theaters on August 1, 2014 and earned an impressive $774 million at the worldwide box office. www.comingsoon.net/movies/news/627255-matthew-mcconaughey-turns-down-guardians-of-the-galaxy-2-villain-role

So Magus is a possible villain for this, who else? What other big cosmic villains are there?

It looks like Nathan Fillion is rumored to play Simon Williams aka Wonder Man. Sylvester Stallone is rumored to be in the movie, also.

Wonder Man was originally created by Zemo as a means to confront the Avengers. He has super strength and is ionic-powered. When he was in suspended animation, his brain pattern was imprinted onto the Vision, by Ultron, I believe.

No, Wonder Man was "dead"(suspended animation) for a long time. Wanda and Vision were married for some time, I believe 'til around the House Of M era. Simon Williams seemed like the obvious replacement, considering they both had essentially the same "brain pattern", except the Vision was more analytical and somewhat colder in nature.

I think in an Avengers Cartoon Wonderman and Wanda were a couple. Its the Avengers Cartoon before the Avengers Assemble which is on Disney XD.

Now Could Wonder Man Possible Join This Group instead of Warlock and Mantis will be the new female addition in order too keep the team well balanced. Maybe in this time line Wonder Man is Quills older Brother and There Father Is Kurt Russell.
