That doesn't matter. His Girl Friday is also a remake. So is The Maltese Falcon.

That doesn't matter. His Girl Friday is also a remake. So is The Maltese Falcon. I was pointing out it wasn't the only To Be or Not to Be, in which I presume the one being nominated was the original, since it's far better regarded.

Ouija Shark Hello Mary Lou: Prom Night II My research shows Mary Lou is a Canadian production and thereby ineligibile.

While we wait for the poll to close, this set brought to you by randomization:
Director: John Huston Written by John Huston, based on the novel by Dashiell Hammett Starring: Humphrey Bogart, Mary Astor Genre: Noir
Does not appear on 2012's Sight and Sound Poll (cowards) #23 on 1998's AFI Top 100
In this noir classic, detective Sam Spade (Humphrey Bogart) gets more than he bargained for when he takes a case brought to him by a beautiful but secretive woman (Mary Astor). As soon as Miss Wonderly shows up, trouble follows as Sam's partner is murdered and Sam is accosted by a man (Peter Lorre) demanding he locate a valuable statuette. Sam, entangled in a dangerous web of crime and intrigue, soon realizes he must find the one thing they all seem to want: the bejeweled Maltese falcon.
Director: Martin Scorsese Written by Nicholas Pileggi Genre: Crime
#94 on the 1998 AFI list
A young man grows up in the mob and works very hard to advance himself through the ranks. He enjoys his life of money and luxury, but is oblivious to the horror that he causes. A drug addiction and a few mistakes ultimately unravel his climb to the top. Based on the book "Wiseguy" by Nicholas Pileggi.
My votes: The Maltese Falcon: Keep Goodfellas: Keep

Keep Falcon Dont need Goodfellas. Or maybe. I dunno: convince me. Keep both. Falcon is the father of Noir and still badass. Goodfellas is one of the best movies ever which has only grown in popularity and respect over time while also being the other definitive gangster movie. Also influential as hell, from The Sopranos to American Hustle to I, Tonya to Scorsese's own later movies, tons and tons of movies and shows owe a lot to Goodfellas. Also the "Last Day of the Wiseguy" sequence is some of the best filmmaking in Scorsese's entire career.
