By my count, only 3 out of 10 movies (soon to be 12, looks like) have been cut. So much for "reconsidering" the list, eh? That said...neither The Maltese Falcon nor GoodFellas would be in my personal Top 100, buuuuuuuuuut beyond that, I can't think of a good reason to justify cutting them.

I feel like there's something to be said for giving an advantage to the defense in matters like these. These movies earned their places on the list in the first place and should have a fighting chance if people want to take them off.

Tbh, I'm trying to ape IanTheCool's "Important Movies" thread as much as possible to spur discussion. That's the reason for the format.

These movies earned their places on the list How? It's just the opinion of old White people. The movies that earned their place are the ones that stood the test of time and remained culturally relevant. This is a good opportunity to do a Millennial version of the AFI list and to also acknowledge the movies that have been released over the past 20 years. Are you gonna make room for Lord of the Rings and countless others? You gotta make cuts.

Yeah...who still talks about movies like Yankee Doodle Dandy, The Best Years of Our Lives and Sullivan's Travels to name a few? There's still a good number of great, influential movies on this list -- I'm not denying that -- but there's also a good number that gots ta go.

If we have this same ratio and cut/replace 30 out of 100, that's really not that insignificant.

Bro, they don't even have The Empire Strikes Back on the list. Widely considered the best Star Wars movie. And yet, Star Wars '77 is comfortably sitting on number 13. Get the fuck outta here. thebtskink needs to say, "fuck it" and start the list from scratch. If Dracula feels truly passionate about the AFI list he can go to bat for it while the rest of us are debating of the merit of Adam Sandler's Punch-Drunk Love.

You're right. Jordon Peele's Us should be in the top 100 and this is our chance to rectify that.

Look at what I'm talking about. Titanic is on the list. What about Terminator? Terminator 2? Aliens? True Lies? Fellowship is on the list. What about Two Towers? Return of the King? Toy Story is on the list. What about Toy Story 2? Wall-E? Up? You need to cut, cut, cut, cut, cut.

Advocate for your choices during the sets, dummy. Convince people of your cause. No one here is thinking ahead. They wanna preserve the AFI list as it is, and then later on bitch & moan when there's no room for their favorite David Fincher movies. I'm trying to save you the headache.
