I like Butch & Sundance, much more than Wild Bunch, but it wouldn't make my Top 100. If we're talking Paul Newman, my vote is Cool Hand Luke. That's my jam. George Kennedy. I'm also fond of The Hustler and Hud, but it has been ages since I've seen either of them.

I admire ATPM but the best newspaper movie is The Paper starring Michael Keaton and directed by Ron Howard. PG Cooper refused to watch it for the Film Club. Shame.

I'm switching to keep on ATPM to motivate me to rewatch the Blu-Ray.

This pairing brought to you by my last random set, all pairs here on out:
Director: Francis Ford Coppola Written by Mario Puzo Starring: Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, Robert Duvall, John Cazale Genre: Crime
#31 on 2012's Sight and Sound Critics' Poll, #30 on the Directors' #32 appear on 1998's AFI Top 100
The compelling sequel to "The Godfather," contrasting the life of Corleone father and son. Traces the problems of Michael Corleone (Al Pacino) in 1958 and that of a young immigrant Vito Corleone (Robert De Niro) in 1917's Hell's Kitchen. Michael survives many misfortunes and Vito is introduced to a life of crime.
Trivia: The line in the film, "Keep your friends close, but your enemies closer" was voted as the #58 movie quote by the American Film Institute (out of 100).
Directed by: Merian C. Cooper , Ernest B. Schoedsack Written by: James Ashmore Creelman , Ruth Rose Starring: Fay Wray, Robert Armstrong Genre: Monster, Adventure, Sci-fi
Does not appear on 2012's Sight and Sound Polls #43 on 1998's AFI Top 100
Actress Ann Darrow (Fay Wray) and director Carl Denham (Robert Armstrong) travel to the Indian Ocean to do location shoots for Denham's new jungle picture. Along the way, the actress meets and falls for rugged First Mate John Driscoll (Bruce Cabot). Upon arriving at a mysterious island, Ann is taken hostage by natives who prepare her as a sacrifice to the enormous ape Kong who rules over their jungle. But when Ann is rescued and Kong is captured, the real trouble begins.
Trivia: The 22 inch (56 centimeter) high model of King Kong used in the film sold at auction in 2009 for about $203,000. It was originally covered in cotton, rubber, liquid latex, and rabbit fur, but most of the covering has decomposed over the decades. A similarly constructed model of a triceratops is owned by Peter Jackson, which he used in his own re-creation of the lost spider pit sequence. My Votes:
Keep both, they're obvious keeps.

This pairing brought to you by older musicals:
Director: George Stevens Written by Howard Lindsay , Allen Scott Starring: Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers Genre: Dance Musical
Does not appear on 2012's Sight and Sound Polls Does not appear on 1998's AFI Top 100
Dexterous and risk-taking Lucky Garnett (Fred Astaire) pursues dancing and gambling with equal verve. Engaged to the pretty Margaret Watson (Betty Furness), Lucky gets pre-wedding nerves, which leads to the ceremony being called off. Margaret's father decides that Lucky can have a second chance at marrying her if he can make $25,000, so he heads to New York City to seek his fortune. When Lucky meets the beautiful dance teacher Penny Carroll (Ginger Rogers), however, his priorities soon change.
Trivia: The climax of "Never Gonna Dance" took 47 takes in a single day and required many demanding spins of Ginger Rogers; her feet bled.
Directed by: Michael Curtiz Written by: Robert Buckner, Edmund Joseph Starring: James Cagney, Joan Leslie Genre: Musical, Biography
Does not appear on 2012's Sight and Sound Polls #100 on 1998's AFI Top 100
Brought to the White House to receive a Congressional Gold Medal from President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Broadway legend George M. Cohan (James Cagney) reflects on his life. Flashbacks trace Cohan's rise, from a childhood performing in his family's vaudeville act to his early days as a struggling Tin Pan Alley songwriter to his overwhelming success as an actor, writer, director and producer known for patriotic songs like "Yankee Doodle Dandy," "You're a Grand Old Flag" and "Over There."
Metal Trivia: James Cagney broke a rib while filming a dance scene, but continued dancing until it was completed.
My Votes: Swing Time: Cut. Though the blackface dance is technical acheivements would probably make me look past the blackface, everyone's an asshole in this movie. If we were going to have Astaire, Top Hat would be a better pick (and i'm still kind of hoping All that Jazz gets in). Yankee Doodle Dandy: Cut. This may be the worst film on the list.

By the way, the Fred Astaire wikipedia taught me something somewhat astounding today.
-Astaire's life has never been portrayed on film.[69] He always refused permission for such portrayals, saying, "However much they offer me—and offers come in all the time—I shall not sell."[70] Astaire's will included a clause requesting that no such portrayal ever take place; he commented, "It is there because I have no particular desire to have my life misinterpreted, which it would be."[71]-

Cut Both
I like the idea of Fred Astaire representation on the list, but could probably live without it as well. And if he is represented it probably shouldn't be with the one with the blackface scene.

Cut both. Swing Time is fun - maybe the most fun Rogers/Astaire musical - but not enough to break into the list. I also quite enjoy Yankee Doodle Dandy (or at least I enjoyed it back when I watched it at fifteen) but again, not top 100 worthy.

Or they just needed the coke money.

Yankee doodle dandy should be cut for having one of the worst titles in movie history.
