Singin' in the Rain: Keep
Greatest musical of all time and a damn great film within any genre.
The Sound of Music: Cut
I don't have anything against this movie, but we don't need it either.

I'm going to throw my support behind both. Two of my favorite musicals.

This pairing brought to you by people hiding from Nazis:
Director: Michael Curtiz Written by Julius J. Epstein , Philip G. Epstein Starring: Humphrey Bogart, Ingrid Berman Genre: Drama, Romance, War
#84 on 2012's Sight and Sound Critics' Poll, Dopes on the Directors' #2 on 1998's AFI Top 100
Rick Blaine (Humphrey Bogart), who owns a nightclub in Casablanca, discovers his old flame Ilsa (Ingrid Bergman) is in town with her husband, Victor Laszlo (Paul Henreid). Laszlo is a famed rebel, and with Germans on his tail, Ilsa knows Rick can help them get out of the country.
Trivia: Back in the early-to-mid 2000s, Madonna wanted to remake "Casablanca (1942)" with her playing IIsa Lund and Ashton Kutcher in the role of Rick Blaine. Madonna pitched the idea to every studio but was unanimously rejected by every studio with one studio executive telling her "That film is deemed untouchable". The project has since been scrapped by Madonna.
Director: Steven Spielberg Written by Steven Zaillian, Based on the Book by Thomas Keneally Starring: Liam Neeson, Ralph Fiennes, Ben Kingsley Genre: Historical Drama
Does not appear on 2012's Sight and Sound Polls #6 not appear on 1998's AFI Top 100
Businessman Oskar Schindler (Liam Neeson) arrives in Krakow in 1939, ready to make his fortune from World War II, which has just started. After joining the Nazi party primarily for political expediency, he staffs his factory with Jewish workers for similarly pragmatic reasons. When the SS begins exterminating Jews in the Krakow ghetto, Schindler arranges to have his workers protected to keep his factory in operation, but soon realizes that in so doing, he is also saving innocent lives.
Trivia: About forty percent of the film was shot using a hand-held camera.
My Votes: Casablanca: Keep . This is probably the pinnacle of what the old studio system can accomplish, before new Hollywood. Schindler's List: Keep.

This pairing brought to you by people hiding from Hitchcock:
Director: Alfred Hitchcock Written by John Michael Hayes , Cornell Woolrich Starring: James Stewart, Grace Kelly Genre: Mystery, Thriller
#42 on 1998's AFI Top 100
The story of a recuperating news photographer who believes he has witnessed a murder. Confined to a wheelchair after an accident, he spends his time watching the occupants of neighbouring apartments through a telephoto lens and binoculars and becomes convinced that a murder has taken place.
Least useful trivia from IMDB: Sir Alfred Hitchcock deliberately shot most of the set-ups so they would appear voyeuristic.
Director: Alfred Hitchcock Written by Ernest Lehman Starring: Cary Grant, Eva Marie Saint, James Mason Genre: Thriller
#53 on 2012's Sight and Sound Critics' Poll, does not appear on Directors' Does not appear on 1998's AFI Top 100
This classic suspense film finds New York City ad executive Roger O. Thornhill (Cary Grant) pursued by ruthless spy Phillip Vandamm (James Mason) after Thornhill is mistaken for a government agent. Hunted relentlessly by Vandamm's associates, the harried Thornhill ends up on a cross-country journey, meeting the beautiful and mysterious Eve Kendall (Eva Marie Saint) along the way. Soon Vandamm's henchmen close in on Thornhill, resulting in a number of iconic action sequences.
Trivia: This movie has been referred to as "the first James Bond film" due to its similarities with splashily colorful settings, secret agents, and an elegant, daring, wisecracking leading man opposite a sinister yet strangely charming villain. The crop duster scene inspired the helicopter chase in From Russia with Love (1963).
My Votes: Rear Window: Cut. Not that I'm really set on cutting a Hitchcock, but if it's gonna happen out of Psycho, NxNW, and this - I'd rather have this one cut. North by Northwest: Keep. It's fun, it zips along, iconic setpieces, and it's really got a lot of the DNA that would come later on.

Keep Rear Window
I'm borderline on North by Northwest, which is in my view the most shallowest of Hitchcock's major films. I guess I'll vote cut right now to be provocative, but I might change my mind.

Keep Rear Window
Cut North by Northwest. It's really good, but I personally feel like there are stronger representations of Hitchcock than it.
