Out of respect for PhantomKnight and his strong opinion on this topic, I will switch my vote to keep for Saving Private Ryan. I do this because there are a lot of things I like about the film and because I think a community list should include films from individual members that they have strong good-faith opinions towards. This should not be viewed as a precedent that I will support anything that anyone decides to whine about the inclusion of. Class act right here. Thanks.
Look, I'm only getting so emotional about this one because Saving Private Ryan is my #1 movie of all-time (Forrest Gump is my 2nd, FYI). So, obviously, I think it has tons of merit to be worthy to be on a Top 100 of all-time, and its positive aspects aren't limited to its first 25 minutes as some people might claim. It showcases some of Spielberg's finest work as a director and is widely considered one of the cornerstones of WWII films for good reason. It deserves a slot.
There. Said my piece. I'm just gonna now take a deep breath, stop acting childish, remind myself this is just a movie forum community tournament being done for fun and let the rest of the round play out.

I certainly wouldn't say that it's only merits are in its first 25 minutes... but I would say that those are the minutes where it's behaving like a Top 100 of all-time movie for me. The rest of it feels like a well made war movie that is more in keeping with the traditions of the genre going back to the 50s and 60s and generally feels less remarkable to me.

Who Framed Roger Rabbit:As I stated in the Film Club, Zemeckis got the short stick between the more highly regarded 70s and 90s era. It's a breakthrough in execution while maintaining Zemeckis' smartass dialogue, advanced animation and spurred on the Disney Renaissance, while also providing some nice circular referencing to other noirs on the list. It's not the first live action/animation hybrid, but it's the best. Fargo:Of all the Coen Brothers movies, I'd say this is the best representation of their dark sense of humor. It's unflinching in the gaze at the crime story, the cinematography is great, and all the acting is top notch. One of the more significant independent films of its generation, and while they'd had success beforehand, this film is a major launching point for the Coens' careers afterward.

The Dark KnightOne of the most influential and culturally relevant films of the 2000’s. There’s before Nolan and after Nolan and Dark Knight is the movie that created that distinction. Plus, it’s Doomsday’s favorite movie. Wall-EIs there a more prophetic movie right now?

Safety Last: Chaplin and Keaton are both on the AFI list but Harold Lloyd deserves a place too. He was even more popular in his time and was notable for bringing a more relatable character to his silent comedies. This movie in particular gave us the iconic "clock dangling" scene which was part of a larger human fly sequence that is one of the better stunt comedy sequences in film history.
Stagecoach: This was on the 1997 AFI list but was taken off the 2007 list and I think that was a mistake. The list as it exists has tons of revisionist westerns but I think there should be a place for a more traditional example of the genre and this is a great one which provides something of a template for the modern action movie. The chase scene is a real beauty and has some very innovative stunt work and Orson Welles himself is said to have studied the movie extensively while he made Citizen Kane.

The Exorcist is one of the most renowned and revered horror movies out there. Its crazy to me that its not on the list. It is ensconced in pop culture, has some deep psychological horror as its backbone, and is just a damn good movie.

My other pick is going to be The Social Network.Its the defining movie of the last decade. It showcases the movement into new corporations and the "rise of the younger generation", for lack of a better term. It deals with a lot of ideas behind the "modern" world of today. It is technically and thematically brilliant and has an incredible script behind it.

The Social Network would be an entirely different movie if made today. It didn't quite touch on the themes that would go on to define Facebook... or even Twitter. It's a bit of a modern day Citizen Kane but it's certainly not the Network of our generation. If the movie had a bit more foresight, you could certainly make a strong argument for it.
