I somehow entirely missed the fact that Lupe Fiasco had a new album out at the start of this year...as it was his last with Atlantic Records they seemingly afforded it minimal promotion.
Anyhoo, it's incredible.

Still no proof the beef caused either murder. My personal theory is that the Tupac killing probably had more to do with the fight that happened ten minutes earlier than the public feud and that the Biggie shooting was then done by a deranged Tupac fan, but again, that's just wild speculation.

Dracula , take a break from jerking off to the Academy Awards and let's talk music, specifically, rap music. I'm sure you and Deexan have watched this video: Here's my issue. All of that is meaningless. At the end of the day what matters is the intent/message of the song and the emotion behind it. That's why people love Biggie and Tupac so much and Eminem and NWA and etc. You can get behind the lyrics. Being able to rhyme is irrelevant if you're rhyming a bunch of random nonsense. Yeah, sometimes they can get away with it, like Biggie with Hypnotize, but generally, there needs to be substance.

There are many ways to skin a cat so to speak. Some rappers have interesting personas, some have a lot of wit, others can put together complex rhyme schemes. The ones who end up being "legendary" tend to be able to do all at once.

Eminem tends to be faster and more technical than a lot of mainstream rappers, possibly because he feels the need to prove himself because of his whiteness.

The Beastie Boys opened the door for Eminem. No one was shocked by his whitness. He was refreshing in the East-West-Coast feud aftermath. Midwestern rap. Kinda opened the door for Kanye.

Beastie Boys were technically a rap group but they've kind of been written out of the history of rap... also Vanilla Ice came in after them and kind of set white people back a decade.

How have Beastie Boys been written out? License to ill is one of the defining rap albums. They also did Kanye West before Kanye West was a thing.

Dracula DeexanIt's the 30th anniversary of Push It by Salt-N-Pepa. The song itself is not worth celebrating, but the history of it is interesting. Push It was released as the B-side to Tramp. It didn't become a hit until a radio DJ did a remix of it. Here's the original version (or the closest thing I could find) : Here's the remix we're all familiar with: Is this the first time a song became famous cause a radio DJ fixed it? I honestly can't think of another example.

Easily the worst of their famous singles.
As for the remix thing, I certainly don't know that there are songs that are specifically more famous because a radio DJ changed them, but there are definitely songs with remixes more famous than the original. In fact there's something of a trend of them right now with examples like "Cheerleader" and "I Took a Pill in Ibiza."
