It's based on a highly regarded stage musical from a now famous writer and directed by a solid filmmaker... seems like there's plenty to be excited about to me. |

Honestly, I'm more excited for this than West Side Story. Having seen the previous West Side Story, I'm having a hard time working up enthusiasm for another one, even with Spielberg at the helm. In the Heights looks fun though. |

They cut out a character and their respective song. Fans are disappointed by that decision, but I think they should have cut even more. The movie doesn’t have a plot that requires a two and a half hour runtime. That being said… the songs are great, the cast is oozing with charm and I think Jon Chu did a great job translating the play to screen. |

More to come later, but for now...loved it. Took a little bit for me to get in step with its rhythm, but once I did, I was fully onboard.
Haven't seen the stage version, though, so I can't comment on any differences.

The songs are trash and its like Lin hired a guy who sounds exactly like himself, just w whole lot younger. The rhythm of all the songs is the exact same and it's a s fucking snooze.
The cousin is by far the best part but he can't save it. Shoulda cut the entire story line about the girl at Stanford. Make this an hour and a half and maybe it's got a shot, that actress was atrocious too, even making her sing most of her lines couldn't hide her stilted delivery.
Lins songs have only been toe tappers one time. Moana. Since then he's been able to take complete creative control and it shows. Rest are all over rated And it's the exact same melody and rhythm, every song.
It's insane this guy's style has become as big as it is.
