IanTheCool, do you wanna build a snowman? If water has memory, I’ll need to track down the hard liquor I drank during Frozen 1 because I don’t remember anything other than Olaf being annoying. So I think I like this one more, but I can’t say for sure. This one seems to have more purpose, but I can’t say for sure. Elsa goes on a quest to unite two kingdoms and learns about her heritage along the way. Doomsday will complain it’s “woke” but it didn’t bother me. At least the movie has something to say and can justify its existence other than being a cash cow. Olaf wasn’t too bad this time around. I guess they learned their lesson from that awful Olaf’s Adventure. The Doofus and Reindeer were ... actually... pretty good and the highlight of the film. Pbar will be surprised to learn. The animation is gorgeous. Definitely splurge to see it on Dolby or IMAX. Overall, not bad. Not bad at all.

Nothing can be more woke than the new Lady and the Tramp.

I don't know if it's "better" than the first, but it's definitely more entertaining.

This was....mostly fine....I guess. Not bad, entertaining even, maybe just enough to be considered good, but also, kind of just...there. Sort of like Ralph Breaks the Internet last year.
Though I gotta admit, I might already be forgetting a lot of it.
It's not better than the first film.
There are plenty of bright spots. I appreciated how they matured the characters. Good humor, nice emotional beats, decent songs but they don't hold a candle to any in the first one. But...what exactly was the conflict here? Something about elemental spirits threatening to awaken or destroy shit? And was it THAT much of a threat? Cause it didn't feel like any kind of immediate danger, to the point where the climax doesn't even seem to take five minutes to resolve. Maybe that's my biggest issue here: the conflict felt very vaguely defined. The character work was good, but the narrative driving force wasn't as strong. Moana took a similar approach wherein the conflict wasn't a villain so much as it was an elemental threat, but that was defined better there and you got a sense of the weight of it. Here, not so much. As a matter of fact...are these animated Disney films now trying to get away from having actual villains? Cause I don't know how I feel about that. Not that Hans was all that memorable in the first outside of the twist that he was actually the villain, but when I think back on the Disney movies I grew up with, I remember the awesome villains like Scar, Jafar, Frollo, Hades, Ursula, Gaston, Ratigan. Why? Because they tangibly represented the conflict in those movies and added to the personality of the films. I can admire on some level the decision to make the conflict something without a face, but the writing has to be there. It was with Moana, but Frozen II? The conflict almost feels like an afterthought.
Again, I didn't dislike this movie, and I'd certainly give it another shot, but "bland" might not be an inaccurate descriptor. The character development was interesting, but the plot needed work.
