Sigh...
I'm so glad you joined the Film Club.
I was going to partner with you but we had an even number of people this round. I only join to balance out the odd number.

IanTheCool 20th Century Women (Netflix) Free Solo (Hulu/Disney+) Marriage Story (Netflix) Peterloo (Amazon Prime) Portait of a Lady on Fire (Hulu) Have no idea if these streaming lineups are the same in your neck of the woods. Let me know if you have any trouble with these and I can add some more options.

Well, the only ones I haven't been partnered up with are you, Phanty, and Drac, so I'm inclined to believe Dracula dodged a bullet. I'm going to have some fun that day.

Lots of good options here. I'll either do Ball of Fire or Shoplifters.

Adore (2013)Adore tells the story of two lifelong friends (Naomi Watts and Robin Wright) in Australia whose sons are equally as close. When one of the women's husband (Ben Mendelsohn) has to leave town to get prepared for a new job at a university in Sydney, events transpire where one of the mothers ends up sleeping with the other's son, followed by the same thing happening with the other pair. From there begins a years-long on-and-off affair with both pairs that obviously cause problems in their personal lives. This is a movie I had no idea even existed before now, despite the presence of actors like Watts, Wright and Mendelsohn. And having seen the final product, it's easy to see why this isn't brought up a lot. To be frank, this movie is really bad. I'll be honest and say that the premise certainly has some potential for an intriguing erotic character drama of sorts, but not half an hour into the movie do you realize that Adore is just going to waste every single ounce of that potential. Of the movie's numerous problems is the fact that there never feels like there's any true risk or consequences at stake for what these women and their sons are doing, and when there ever is, it either feels like the film is delving into those out of obligation or like it's too little, too late. Everybody knows that one of the fundamentals of drama is conflict, yet Adore doesn't really seem to grasp that. Instead, it has its characters engage in their affairs, acknowledge only in a decidedly more blase fashion that, "Oh, this isn't right, we should stop," but then ultimately have them keep at it because, as far as I could tell, "it feels good." And by the end, consequences have been inflicted on them in what only felt to me like an obligatory way. Now, on one hand, you can see these affairs as some sort of deeper character dilemma for all involved, and that would be fine...if the movie was interested in trying to explore that. But, no, it just sticks to the surface-level "This isn't right, and we should stop, but can't" issue, and lathers-rinses-repeats over and over without ever really delving further into it. And the same is true for its non-characters. Oh, and another thing -- this movie takes place across the span of multiple years, to the point where the mothers eventually become grandmothers, and yet...they never look like they age a day throughout. Yeah, like I'm gonna buy Naomi Watts as a grandmother when she looks the same as she did when her own son was around 10. Sure. Overall, Adore is just bad and boring, aka the most lethal combination. I can't decide if it's half-baked or undercooked, but either way, it's not satisfying in the slightest.

Watched Three Days of the Condor last night. Review up soon, but the movie might be worth its flaws just for Max Von Sydow.
