I think PG Cooper still has the record at 2 hours 19 minutes. You got yours in at 2 hours and 44 minutes. Very close. Challenge Accepted

I have my thesis defense tomorrow so I'm trying to stay in that head space right now. My defense was successful if anyone cared. Official graduation will be in the fall, but for all intents and purposes, I have a Masters degree.

Bad CompanyThe 70s are famously considered a pretty rough decade for Westerns and while that might be true financially speaking, I do think we got some interesting stuff artistically. Bad Company is a good example of this. The film is about a group of outlaws trying to survive during the Civil War, but the catch is this particular band is about the most incompetent group of gunslingers you'll ever come across. Of particular note as a young Jeff Bridges, who plays the group's leader with the right mix of confident bravado and youthful inexperience. I was less impressed with Barry Brown, who is in many ways the real protagonist of the story and a bit of an annoying twerp. On the plus side, the cinematography is by the great Gordon Willis and boy does it show. Bad Company definitely shares a visual affinity with Willis's work on The Godfather and that was certainly a treat. BSorry this is so late. It's been kind of a crazy time. In addition to my M.A. defense, I also had to replace my laptop and mattress so I've been a bit stressed. Whatever Nilade recommends me, I'll be sure to get my review in a more timely manner.

Hunt for the Wilderpeople It's magistical. The fat kid from Deadpool 2 plays a foster child who's left in the care of an older lady in a remote farm. When she dies, he goes to live in the woods with an old hermit played by Sam Neil of Jurassic Park fame. Once child services finds out, they believe the kid has been abducted and a manhunt and media circus emerges. What follows is a charming buddy film, in the vein of Thelma & Louise or Midnight Run, but with a New Zealand sensibility. Highly recommend it.

Away From Her
A film directed by the girl from Road to Avonlea about a woman with alztemiers (spelling?) and her husband. Its a pretty straightforward tale shot well. You really feel this plight through dementia. I did feel that it started to unravel near the end. I also didn't find that Julie Christie's character rang true. I think it was the way she was written more than her performance, but nonetheless. I did think Gordon Pinsent was excellent as the husband who feels more and more abandoned. Good flick. It also felt very Canadian, but not in a bad way.
8/10
