Mean Creek with Josh Peck. Enjoyed it at the time. Don’t know if it holds up. If PG Cooper hasn’t seen it, I can give it to him for 201.

Can we still post our reviews on Letterboxd before December 1st? If you want, your call. My lust for power extends only so far as this thread.

Truly good work everyone. I remember watching a number of films, but drac I believe gave me rashomon prob like a decade ago and I have a copy of the criterion on my shelf I liked it so much. Someone else threw seventh seal at me also prob a movie I wouldn't have sought out on my own. I hope to be better at timing these things, have the second tv finally set up in the new house, will strive to be better about completing my flicks on time. That would have been in round 13 in 2007. You gave me Mean Creek Mean Creek was a round 5 watch for me too.

Oh I thought mean creek was the Australian horror movie... I still remember quite liking mean creek. It had a moment on showtime for a few years, I distinctly remember being very thrown off by the acting at times but thinking it was effective.
Definitely inspired alpha dog to a certain degree.

Truly amazing this club has gone on for 200 rounds. Love it. When I first ran this idea by Doomsday in 1940, he said it couldn't be done - but I showed him. I got loans from all the bank in town, set up models, did the math, plotted scenarios - even ran a test focus group a few times (we kept watching Wizard of Oz since it was the only movie at the time.) Until finally, fully formed and ready to go, I brought it back Doomsday and he still wasn't happy. Something about a war going on. I don't know. Some say I'm ahead of my time. Finally, decades later, it was ready to go, and the rest is history.

Nosferatu the Vampyre
I get the influence of German expressionism looms large, but christ-almighty, I've never watched a longer 96 minute movie. You could have shaved off 20 minutes to no ill effect. Long, drawn-out montages go a ways of settling the tone here. It was cool the first 3 times Herzog did them, and the approach to the castle, Dracula's sailing voyage, and the last supper sequence in particular were scored beautifully, but bat montage number three during the final sequence was the final straw.
The acting is horrid, save for a Crimewave-level performance from Roland Topor as Renfield. That dude killed it.
There's a lot to this movie I like. It's eerie and atmospheric, and the movie is right to place a focus on Dracula's loneliness.
Some day when I'm not dead tired I'll try to see if i can re-watch it in one sitting without falling asleep or Amazon crapping out; I think I'll probably get more out of it the second time.

I think I was in the wrong mindset, and Amazon crapping out definitely made it feel less cohesive.
I will say I like some of the effects whenever Kinski walks into a room. Feel the expression influence there and in the graveyard especially. Though some of those are out of the original.

Watching the movie I was reminded of an interesting Gregory Peck story, not sure if I shared this before but whatever....
Years ago when I was just out of college I worked for a restaurant/catering business. One day we were setting up for a job at some guys house. It was a nice place close to San Diego right near the beach. He gave us a tour of the house and when we walked by a wall of photos I noticed one of Gregory Peck with a woman and young kid which I thought was kind of random. I asked why the photo of GP and the guy told me that the kid in the picture was him and the woman standing next to GP was the guys mom. He told us how his mom had a years-long affair with Peck and he had come to know him like a father figure as he was growing up. I don’t know about the rest of you but if I had to pick a movie star to bang my mom Gregory Peck would be on the short list.

My Own Private IdahoMy Own Private Idaho, starring Terence Stamp, follows a couple of hoodlums who make their way in the world doing anything people want for money. Its directed by Gus Van Sant who puts a lot of flourishes into the film, the most blatant being the scene where the actors have a conversation within their own magazine covers. The film focuses on River Phoenix as a narcoleptic jigalo who goes back to his Idaho home, and Keanu is his best friend.
There's lots of quirky stuff in this movie. Lots. The film likes to through in this faux-Shakespearean dialogue every now and then. We also get a street gang, lead by a creepy guy named Bob, act really weird a lot. The clients also have some weird requests, including singing into a lamp. Again, very quirky. Unfortunately, its not the kind of quirkiness I am drawn to, and I found it all pretty dumb.
That said, I'm not trying to disparage the film objectively. While none of this worked for me, I am sure that someone with different preferences would connect with these oddities more. Clearly Nilade must, as he recommended the film. If you are able to tap into the character's journey this would probably be a really strong film. But I wasn't really able to get the point of what was happening and it all just fell flat.
