While I cannot relate to hating Birdman, a couple of people I know didn't care for it. Their main reasoning seems to simply be that it wasn't what they were expecting. They saw the film based on the assumption that they would get what was promised by the trailer, which was a fun dark comedy about the duality between a superhero and the actor who portrayed him. What they got was a character study, and they just weren't prepared for that.
