Throw in that dramatic ending, and you have one fantastic comic book movie on your hands.
The ending in which Xavier freezes everyone in the west wing of the White House, Storm fills the sky with so many thunderclouds that it blots out the sun, Professor X tells the President that he's not there to threaten him while Nightcrawler (the mutant who tried to kill the President in the opening scene) is right next to him, and then proceeds to threaten the President? That dramatic ending?

The Nightcrawler opening is one of my favorite scenes in the genre.

This probably won't be a surprise, but... 1. Spider-Man 2 2004 No superhero movie has more heart than Sam Raimi's second Spider-man film. I love comic book movies, but I wouldn't include many of them as being one of the "great films", but this one gets that inclusion. What SM2 does so brilliantly is that it focuses right in on Peter Parker and his every day woes. He is a superhero of course, but it comes at a cost; not in the form of a dramatic loss, but more of a quotidian struggle. And most of all, it has strained his friendship with the love of his life, Mary Jane. Mary Jane is not just a token love interest, as so many other superhero movies have. She is the fulcrum of the entire story. The conflict between Peter and Mary Jane is foremost of everything else that Peter has to deal with, be it failing grades, losing jobs, or battling Dr. Octopus. But that's not to say this is just a love story; the Doc Ock story-line is just as compelling and gives us some fantastic set pieces, especially the train sequence. Sam Raimi does an amazing job of capturing the plight of Peter Parker and the sacrifices of being a hero. The whole movie builds on top of that, questioning the idea of what a hero is and whether Peter even wants the burden anymore. He is doing what is right, but it isn't easy for him. And then it all culminates in that moment when he turns around and Mary Jane learns the truth. Its such a cathartic moment. Great movie. Still the best Marvel has given us.

10. DEADPOOL (2016)Deadpool didn’t execute what it set out to do. It isn’t as funny as it thinks it is, and the screenplay in general was very mediocre. But what it excelled at is creating a lovable character through the devilishly fun performance by Ryan Reynolds. This isn’t a great movie but it manages to be more entertaining than what Marvel usually offers by giving us something outside the box.

Hard to argue with Deadpool making a list like this though. It was outside the box indeed.

10. Thor: Ragnarok 9. Iron Man 8. Spider-Man 7. X-Men: Days of Future Past 6. Captain America: The Winter Soldier 5. The Avengers 4. X2: X-Men United 3. The Avengers: Infinity War 2. Logan 1. Spider-Man 2
Couple thoughts: Going with nostalgia for some of the choices here. The release of the Spider-Man and X-Men flicks coincided with my teenage years, as well as my growing interest in learning more about film in general, so they'll always have a special place for me. As a result, I felt like this list needed to reflect that.
I wanted to have a nice balance of MCU movies/Non-MCU movies, and I'm happy with the outcome of an even split. For the non-MCU flicks, I was never a fan of Blade/Fantastic Four outings. Deadpool doesn't do it for me, so it came down to which Spidey and X-Men flicks to choose.
Picking from X-Men was much harder, as I could easily have put X-Men 1 and First Class on here. The Spidey franchise (Non-MCU) is much easier, as I only like 1 and 2. 3 is trash and I pretend the Garfield ones don't exist.
As for the MCU, that was much harder for me than I thought it would be. Of the 21 movies, it's about half and half for which ones I like and which I'm not too fond of (Ant-Man, Captain Marvel, Thor 2). But of the ones I liked, it was hard. Guardians barely missed the cut, as did Civil War, which, if were being honest, should be on the top 10. But I felt Winter Soldier is ultimately the best of the Cap flicks, and the first Iron Man is a must. And I loved Infinity War, so I had to find a place for it.

9. DAREDEVIL (2003)According to SnoBorderZero, good superhero movies didn’t exist before 2008. Wrong! Here you have one of the finest origin tales of the genre combined with a singular story (no sequel setup) about one of the most tortured characters the medium has to offer. If that wasn’t enough. They throw in a kickass soundtrack by Evanescence. Batman isn’t the only superhero that belongs to Hot Topic. We got Daredevil too, baby.

#43 To be fair, its been a long time since Ive seen DD. Better than Batman vs Superman, Suicide Squad and Justice League. This is truth. I personally like Daredevil a lot. It's effects are shit and it was edited to hell, but I always thought it was a pretty solid movie. I'd even probably would put it in a real top ten. But I don't do real top tens because those are boring. Here's my troll top ten: 10. Hulk 9. Ghost Rider 8. Man-Thing 7. The Fantastic Four (1994) 6. X-Men Origins: Wolverine 5. Captain America (1990) 4. Fantastic Four (2015) 3. Thor: Ragnarok 2. Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance #1

8. X2: X-MEN UNITED (2003)X2 is probably the only movie you can call a drama disguised as a superhero film. At its core it's just a story about parents struggling to accept that their child is different than the other boys & girls. There's literally a coming-out scene and the villain is just mad that Xavier couldn't "fix" his son. X2 is the very definition of a quaint superhero movie - something the genre may not see again for decades.
