I know Doomsday didn’t work on this show cause it actually looks good. Bastard. This one was the only Disney+ series not shot in Manhattan Beach so far so I know 0 about it. They also aren't using Stagecraft, they're shooting it old school with...actual sets. Hopefully it's as good as it looks, or at the very least better than the last couple shows.

Plus, it's not a measly six episodes long.

Reviews are out. 75 on mc. Bit of a mixed bag of reviews.
Cautiously optimistic with minimal child actors near top billing.

I watched the first three episodes. And I thought they were...fine. It's easy to recognize this as hands-down the most well-made piece of Disney+ Star Wars content to date, but much like Rogue One, its biggest hindrance for me personally is that the characters -- especially Andor -- just come across pretty flat. So, it was hard to really get invested in anything in those first three episodes.
I might still try to watch the other episodes. We'll see.

Is it just me or are people being very hyperbolic about this show?

I haven’t watched it yet but I heard it’s great. But yes that seems…hyperbolic.

I haven’t watched it yet but I heard it’s great. But yes that seems…hyperbolic. They are, yes. Andor is a quality show, certainly. A great deal of the enthusiasm appears to stem from how it portrays just how bad The Empire truly is from the perspective of the average citizen, which is something that's been missing from previous incarnations of the Star Wars Saga.

I'm 4 episodes in and I'm enjoying it. Not fantastic of course but it's at least a more serious show than the other Star Wars series.

I finally finished it. It's definitely a slow burn especially compared to other Star Wars properties, almost too slow at times. There is a feeling that this is yet another series that's been stretched maybe 3 or 4 episodes longer than it needed to be and it leans very heavily on leaving everything to season 2 as nothing is concluded in any way. Still, it feels like a very 'mature' Star Wars show compared to the Mandalorian and I think season 2 might reinforce the quality of this one in hindsight depending on how it turns out. I can't say I loved it and it's tough to compare to the other Star Wars shows since it feels so different but different is what Star Wars desperately needs right now.
EDIT: I was just reading some reviews and many of them are glowing and highly positive, almost too positive. I can't help feeling that there are people overcompensating somewhat after being burned by Book of Boba Fett and Obi-Wan. Again not saying it's bad, it definitely took Star Wars in an interesting direction, I just hesitate saying it's that good.

Again not saying it's bad, it definitely took Star Wars in an interesting direction, I just hesitate saying it's that good. It is definitely slow. As to the different is what Star Wars needs right now comment... my question is why? Isn't what Star Wars needs right now is to not be milked? Just because its different doesn't mean its good, though I feel that is where a lot of the glowing reviews are coming from. But my feels are this: if its so different it doesnt even feel like Star Wars anymore (and Andor is), then why is it Star Wars?
And I'm not talking about the fact that it doesnt have jedis or lightsabers, which seems to be the preemptive strike people are making against those who criticize the show for not being star wars enough. It doesnt have the tone, pacing, sense of adventure of star wars. This is what Mandalorean was successful at.
In my opinion, the way you take Star Wars to a different place while still retaining what makes a Star Wars show Star Wars, is something like Last Jedi. But that broke the fandom. (and somehow I'm inexplicably the only one here who champions it).
People who were getting burnt out on Star Wars are embracing Andor because its such a shift. Many embrace the idea of Star Wars going off in wildly different directions, bu I just don't see why they need to force these directions into the franchise (other than the obvious reason of making bank. I'm looking at this purely from a creative standpoint). I felt much the same with the animated Visions series, which was simply a samurai story told with lightsabers instead of swords.
I don't know, maybe I'm being close-minded, but I just struggle seeing the point of view on this one. People complain about everything being IP-based now and risk-adverse. Well of course they are when you are forcing stories that don't fit into these franchises to fit into the franchises for name recognition.
Rant over. Sorry.

Alright, I finished going through this before Christmas. The second half of the season (everything after Episode 6) got a lot more intriguing and involving, but that doesn't excuse the fact that the first half was so sluggish and honestly rather dull. It's probably the most well-made/produced piece of Star Wars content in this new era, and I still appreciated the maturity and espionage approach in the storytelling as the season went on. I just hope Season 2 proves to be more compelling from the get-go.
But yeah, 'overhyped' is definitely an appropriate word here.
