The Graduate- 10/10 As enjoyable as it is influential. Awesome soundtrack and performances, one of the great American films. In the Line of Fire- Never seen it Paranormal Activity- 7/10 Works on a one time viewing, high concept level. Unravels itself by the end, but it is fairly effective in what it tries to do.

The Graduate - I dunno what it is, I just could never get into it. Certainly not a bad movie but also not one of my favs either. Maybe I'll watch it again sometime and see if it does something for me. In The Line of Fire - This movie is really cool. John Malkovich is great. If you haven't seen it you should treat yourself. Paranormal Activity - Haven't seen it. Won't see it.

1. The Graduate: Watching this film now I have a greater appreciation for this than I did in high school. The film uses French New Wave techniques very well and I imagine this was pretty bold for audiences in 1967 audiences. Beyond that, it's a really well-made film which dwells on some interesting themes, has some great performances, and an awesome soundtrack. If I have any problems, it's that the second half is less interesting than the first. Still, clearly a classic. A
2. In the Line of Fire: Really engaging thriller with a first rate performance from John Malkovich. The love story really doesn't work but otherwise this is a pretty sharp film. B+
3. Paranormal Activity: Scary if it happened to you, but a bit boring as a film. D+

The Graduate- I'm looking forward to picking up the Criterion Blu and revisiting it because I feel like I'm in a better position to understand the movie now than when I first saw it a long time ago. Its influence on other filmmakers like Wes Anderson is pretty obvious and it clearly did a lot to advance American film. ****
In the Line of Fire- Fun action thriller, worth a watch, nothing too special though. ***
Paranormal Activity- A very interesting experiment in minimalist horror that they somehow found a way to sell to a wide audience. A very cool little project. Maybe not such a great idea to turn it into a big franchise. ***1/2

DraculaThey got three good movies. It's a good batting average for a horror franchise.

Dracula They got three good movies. It's a good batting average for a horror franchise. Meh. 2 and 4 were lame. 3 was alright but offered very little the first didn't. The Marked Ones was also alright, but they were really straining for something worthwhile at that point. Haven't seen The Ghost Dimension yet, but the fact that it was a found footage movie in 3D didn't bode well. There's kind of an interesting mythology to the series, but it was kind of undercut by Lost levels of deliberate drip feeding with no resolution.

The 2nd one wasn't good, but the 3rd one definitely had its moments. I stopped there.

The 2nd one wasn't good, but the 3rd one definitely had its moments. I stopped there. The 2nd film is hilarious. The 3rd one is actually effective as a horror movie. During the witch scenes at the end, you could literally hear a pin drop at the movie theater. That's how intense it was.

2nd film was a lesser version of the first one with even less actually happening. The novelty wasn't enough the second time around. The 3rd film spruced things up plot wise and the last scenes were truly creepy like you said.

1. Awesome movie, one of the ones that I bought on blu-ray as soon as I watched it for the first time. 2. Really fun movie, leagues better than the wildly overrated An American in Paris that came out shortly before (Doomsday trivia: I met Debbie Reynolds when I was in college, she was very nice). 3. Never seen it but Criterion just released it, I'll squeeze it in sometime soon.

The Thing (1982)- 9/10, Other than Alien and Aliens, I can't think of a better film in utilizing its concept, effects, and environment in the sci-fi/horror genre. It's uncompromising and never plodding. Tons of fun and to me Carpenter's best film.
Singin' in the Rain- 10/10, I hate musicals, just not my thing at all. This however is one of the best films ever made and easily the greatest musical ever. Smart, catchy, and has a plot that's more than a contrived setup for the songs. Great, great movie.
Gilda- See Doomsday's response.

The Thing (1982): Cool movie, effects are awesome and I like the setup. 4/5
Singin' in the Rain: Been a while since I've seen it, it's pretty amusing I guess but I don't exactly get what some of the fuss is about. 3.5/5
Gilda: Pretty sure I saw it on TCM once... can't say I remember much about it aside from Rita Hayworth's entrance. abstain

Um, The Thing is awesome. I'm usually disgusted by the effects, but the tension is enough to make me overlook that and love the film. Also, Antarctica!
Singing in the rain I appreciate, but dont really care for. The actual Singin in the rain song scenes is quite excellent, I will admit.

The Thing - one of my all time favorite movies. Great effects, great acting and just awesome. Singing in the Rain - Never been a huge fan of the musicals, but I always catch myself watching this if it's on. Gilda - Haven't seen.

1. The Thing: From my perspective, this is Carpenter's masterpiece. I love the atmosphere, the effects, the score, and cinematography. The presence of tough guys like Kurt Russell and Keith David also helps a lot. A
2. Singin' in the Rain: Very fun film. Good music, colourful, and quite funny. As far as Hollywood musicals of the 1950s go, this is almost certainly the best. I don't quite love it, but it has earned it's classic status. B+
3. Gilda: I've seen this twice now and while it's put forth as a noir classic, I don't really see it. Rita Hayworth and George Macready are both quite and the filmmaking is competent, but this lacks the style or psychological complexity that defines top-tier noir. C+

The only one of these I've seen is Singin' In The Rain, which I liked the first time I saw it, but enjoyed considerably less upon a re-watch.

1. They Live - haven't seen it. 2. Some Like It Hot - Classic Wilder, even today it has scenes that make me laugh out loud. 3. Bullitt - I'm a huge Steve McQueen fan and I'll be the first to admit that this movie is wildly overrated. It has a car chase. That's.It. Other than that it's a slow, plodding movie that doesn't really do anything and is pretty anti-climactic. The Getaway is a Steve McQueen crime movie that's 100x better.

They Live: Interesting concept and some cool moments in it, but Rowdy Roddy Piper isn't much of a star and the ending is a bit anti-climactic.
Some Like it Hot: Funny movie, been a while since the last time I watched it.
Bullitt: The car chase is cool, Steve McQueen is cool, it's a cool movie.

Some Like It Hot felt flat for me, I remember being hugely let down after hearing so much hoopla about it over the years.
Haven't seen They Live (had it downloaded for forever) and my memories of Bullitt are hazy, I think I watched half of it once.

They Live: I still feel this movie is underrated. Great concept, great one liners and just fun.
Some Like It Hot: Funny movie, haven't watched it in a while.
Bullitt: Car chase classic with Steve McQueen.
