You need to correct that - like right now! I'll make you a trade, I'll watch that if you watch a random Criterion film.

(I actually didn't think you'd agree...) Badlands (1973) Don't Look Now (1973) Picnic at Hanging Rock (1975) F for Fake (1975) Close-up (1990) Hoop Dreams (1994) There ya go, I'm adding Mask of Zorro to the top of my Netflix list now.

Yeah, that's better actually, just find something really black and white, and super old, and super foreign, and super artsy, and minimal dialogue and I'll be stoked.

My Cousin Vinny: pretty alright for what it is. I can't really imagine that it was ever actually in theaters, it's natural habitat seems to be VHS and saturday afternoon HBO timeslots. ***
The Mask of Zorro: Pretty cool movie, a reboot before reboot was a buzz word that did a pretty damn good job of bringing the character back to life. Cool sword fights. ***1/2
Airplane: Not my thing. *1/2

So Neverending is basically doing an unofficial CS! Film Club round?

So Neverending is basically doing an unofficial CS! Film Club round? Neverending never goes in there, so this is my only chance to infiltrate the soul with Criterion.

My Cousin Vinny: Fun, harmless, not a great film but entertaining.
Mask of Zorro: One of my favorites as a kid and still surprisingly enjoyable.
Airplane: Put me in the 1% of people who don't like this movie. Even as an 11 year old I thought it was pretty dumb and Hot Shots was one of my favorite movies at the time. The Naked Gun is 10,000x better.

Neverending"The Mask of Zorro" was a lot of fun. The action sequences are grounded and never overly outlandish, the performances were all very good especially Hopkins, the production design was top-notch, and it didn't feel too long despite the running time. Everything comes together a little too nicely throughout the film though, I mean they could've at least thrown in a twist or something to shake things up, but it never happens. The film plays out pretty much exactly how you think it will, but it executes everything pretty well so I can't really complain. The movie definitely has a nice energy and charm to it all, and it's a fun outing even if it plays everything a bit safe. 7/10 Where's that Criterion review?

SnoBorderZeroTHE BICYCLE THIEF (1948)The Bicycle Thief - or "Bicycle Thieves" for you purists - is about a husband & father living in poverty during post-WWII Italy. After a year of unemployment he finally gets a job hanging Rita Hayworth posters around Rome. The job requires him to ride a bicycle and the bicycle literally gets stolen on his first day of work. The rest of the film shows him doing everything he can to get the bicycle back. The movie is famous for being ultra realistic and showing a late 1940's Italy so accurate that Italians were pissed off about it. During tough times, people usually want escapist entertainment. But the rest of the world immediately embraced it and I see its influence in various films like The Godfather Part II, Pee-Wee's Big Adventure and Y Tu Mama Tambien. The only complaint I have about the movie is that, despite being super realistic, the main character doesn't resort to the obvious solution until the very end. Maybe I'm an asshole but if I was leaving in poverty and my livelihood depended entirely on a bicycle and that bicycle was stolen, I would also steal a bicycle as soon as possible. I wouldn't spend a whole day looking for it. How would you even find it in a major city? The answer: you wouldn't. Even the film is honest enough to admit that. But whatever. This is a micro issue. The Bicycle Thief isn't really about a man searching for a bicycle. It's about pointing a mirror to society. And it that sense, it excels. A+ says Doomsday

Awesome, glad you enjoyed it, this is the grandaddy of Italian cinema before Fellini came along. Sergio Leone worked on the movie as the director's assistant. Leone probably learned the importance of cinematography and editing from him. That's the other impressive thing. The techniques used aren't outdated. Modern audiences can watch The Bicycle Thief without any issues.

Completely agree, it's amazing how a film that appears so simple on the surface can entertain and explore complex societal issues at the same time. It's probably the most approachable of the major Italian Neo-Realism works (though "Rome Open City" and "Umberto D." are excellent as well) and I'm always happy to hear people reacting positively to it after their first viewing. Good stuff Neverending.

Heathers - fun movie in a guilty pleasure sort of way.
Day the Earth Stood Still - watched it for the first time just recently. I really enjoyed it.
Tree of Life - pretentious filmmaking at it's finest. Just because it's Malick doesn't mean it gets a free pass. Tell me how the dinosaurs fit in and I'll change my opinion. I'll wait.

Because it's all a part of the birth of life, which parallels the boy's life growing up in Texas. Yeah, that's all I got for you. Dinosaurs man, dinos and Brad Pitt in the same movie!
But seriously, I love that movie.

Heathers, which one is that again?
Day the Earth Stood Still is pretty cool, but I think i need to rewatch to determine if i love it or not.
Tree of Life is pretty great. its about mankind's place in the history of the universe, and therefore makes sense to have dinosaurs involved. Believe me dooms, I love calling out pretentious filmmaking when its warrented, and I suppose there is some pretention here, but there is a lot behind this movie that makes it worthwhile.

Heathers: Clever, and pretty funny. B+
The Day the Earth Stood Still: The pacing is a little off, but this is a great meeting of B-movie and intellectual science fiction. A rewatch might have me loving it. A-
The Tree of Life: Like most Malick films, I think this is beautiful to look at, listen to, and admire the ambition. I also found myself cold to the characters and story. B+

Heathers, which one is that again? Winona Ryder and Christian Slater '80s "teen" flick where they start killing the popular kids in the school.

2. In the Line of Fire - Seems like I forget most of this movie.
3. Paranormal Activity - I liked the idea till the very end.
