Caught early yes, biopsy is next week. Know more then... the doctor seems very confident though.

At least you can try to take some hope in the fact that a lot of great strides have been made in cancer treatment lately. I hear of a lot more folks walking away from it than ever. Hopefully she'll have a good outcome.

I'm sorry Frizzo.
And who in their right mind is out shopping ON Thanksgiving anyway? Watch football, eat turkey or whatever equivalent.. Talk to your family, or if you hate your family, your friends.
Then again I avoid Black Friday and after Christmas shopping like the plague. I might try and look for a decent surround sound system online but that will probably be it.

I don't know who I blame more, the companies or the customers. It's sad on both fronts. I've never gone out for Black Friday shopping and never will.

I might take a look at Best Buy online, but I definitely won't be leaving the house on Black Friday.

Who in their right mind is out shopping ON Thanksgiving anyway? LOTS of people. I've never gone out for Black Friday shopping I did it once... and it's mostly amusing. Everyone gathers at the electronic section and the rest of the store is completely empty. I remember joking, "you could steal a bunch of stuff and no one would notice or care. All the attention and energy is at electronics." I might take a look at Best Buy online. Cyber Monday is WAY better than Black Friday.

We had guests asking us before Halloween when we were opening on Black Friday. Its ridiculous. When I first started, it was 4 am Friday. I think it stayed that for a year or two until Wal-Mart (among others) decided "oh, we're going to open up Thanksgiving night!" Then, it was 8 pm Thanksgiving, then 7 last year. This year its 6. (I'm management so I have to be there an hour before open.) Not to mention we always announce our opening at pretty much the last minute because Target is essentially playing chicken, trying to see which stores are opening earlier so we can say "See! We're open earlier than that!"

Isn't the whole point of doorbusters to get people into the store in the morning so that they'll hopefully stay and do the rest of their Christmas shopping? Opening really early like that would seem to encourage people to pop in, get the cheap shit and then leave.

I'm sorry, Ben, that's bullshit.
I've heard that the store that opens first get a lot of business that the other stores might not, so there might be no end to this.

I've heard that the store that opens first get a lot of business that the other stores might not, so there might be no end to this. Funny thing is, I remember last year when we opened at 7, we had a huge crowd for about 2 or 3 hours, then it trailed off. The overnight hours (in which we were still open) were so dead, we probably weren't even making enough money to cover payroll for the employees we had on staff. I agree, there is no end in sight. With stores like K-mart opening at 6 am (!) on Thanksgiving, its only matter of time before we do the same. Then, it'll probably be, "oh, we're open early on Christmas for those last minute shoppers!" If you waited that long to do your Christmas shopping, you're an asshole, and fuck you. We're already trying to figure out what day we'll actually be able to have Thanksgiving here. Maybe sometime that weekend if we're lucky. Of course, I have to just put on a happy face at work and pretend that its "all for the good of the company!"

K-mart opening at 6 am (!) on Thanksgiving Wouldn't that be... better? If the store opened at 6, at what time would you get there? 4? 5? By Noon, you would be clocking out. That gives you plenty of time to rest and then enjoy Thanksgiving. Or are you concerned that they would give you two shifts in the same day?

Because I worked a lot of retail when I was younger I can just about guarantee you that Ben isn't working an eight hour shift, especially as management. A lot of retail management doesn't work eight hour shifts to begin with; I know at Best Buy and Shopko (the two stores I've worked for in my life), management typically worked ten hour shifts by default. The last Black Friday retail shift I worked was from 10pm to 11am (we opened at 11pm); I remember sitting in my office (I was loss prevention) and debating taking a nap because it was like a graveyard from about 1am to 5am. I finally took a 5 hour energy and climbed into my perch (there was a little perch in the corner of the store, you'd climb up a ladder and sit about 12 feet above the floor, gave me a bird's eye view of everything) and watched a movie on my phone. There was no reason for me to be there anyway since I wasn't allowed to try and catch a shoplifter.

Today is Remembrance Day and I am thinking of the many men and women who gave their lives for my mine and my family's freedom. May their souls rest in peace.
Will try and check out some of the live feed from Ottawa at the memorial on CBC. Hope nothing bad happens like a little while ago with the shootings on Parliament.

Had the whole place to myself! I prefer an empty theater so it was a win for me.
