EDIT: What does everyone think about The Lego Movie? Is that worth including? I say no. Popular movie and I enjoy it well enough, but important seems a stretch. Question thoug, is it less important than Guardians of the Galaxy? It seems like I'm seeing equal amounts of imitations from both.

If the Emoji Movie isn't a Lego Movie imitator, I don't know what is. Granted the world would be a better place if it didn't exist so that's a knock against The Lego Movie, but it's also equally a rip on Toy Story and Wreck-It Ralph so take that for what you will. I'd also argue that it spun Lord and Miller into something of a franchise of their own, with the Lego spin-off films and most recently Into the Spider-Verse.

I like Lego movie for its inventive visual style, but I'm still not sure.
I do kinda like john Wick, that Drac mentioned. What do we think?

Boyhood is in for sure. Next highest are Interview, Birdman, Selma, American Sniper and Guardians.
Again, Selma was an important event 50 years ago, but how was the movie itself important?

I stand by that a black woman making a movie of that scale is unique and important, especially if Ava DuVernay continues to be a major force in Hollywood.

Boyhood Birdman Whiplash Selma The Interview I'd drop Whiplash for GotG if people aren't really rising up for Whiplash.

I'd rather see Whiplash on there over Guardians, but that might just be bias from me.

If you're using my comment on prior page to put Sniper in, don't. That wasnt a vote for it.

Wow. Okay... 1. 50/50 - A perfect movie for the "millennial's." 2. Contagion - Steven Soderbergh offered a somewhat realistic portrayal of what might happen if America ever suffered a plague. 3. Hugo - Martin Scorsese's propaganda for the importance of film preservation. 4. Tower Heist - Even though this movie got no love whatsoever, mostly because of prejudice towards Eddie Murphy and Brett Ratner, it did capture the heart of the "99% vs 1%" debate and created great fantasy out of it. I'm sure this movie will find an audience on television... eventually. 5. X-Men: First Class - How to safe a franchise without rebooting it. My god, this is asinine. Ummm... The Tree of Life: Future classic that seems to have inspired a new wave of directors inspired by Malick. Bridesmaids: Allegedly broke the comedic glass ceiling. I don't necessarily think that's 100% true, but that's the narrative at the moment. Contagion: Will probably be brought up every time the media is blowing an "epidemic" out of proportion, which is to say very often. Melancholia: One of the more accessible films of Lars Von Trier's recent catalog. Drive: I'm not a big fan, but it seems to have become one of the bigger cult films or recent memory and some of its stylistic tricks seem to have been adopted. 1. Drive: One of the most loved films in recent years. 2. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part Two: Ended a massive franchise which defined the childhoods of a generation. 3. X-Men: First Class: Saved the X-Men franchise and the young cast seem to have been very successful since. 4. Rise of the Planet of the Apes: Amazing special effects, furthered the debate regarding motion capture performances, and made The Planet of the Apes franchise more respectable than ever. 5. Contagion: A realistic portrayal of a massive epidemic spreading, and it taps into very relevant fears. The Descendents Hugo Drive Contagion X-Men First Class Contagion has risen to the top of the rental charts www.hollywoodreporter.com/rambling-reporter/contagion-hits-top-10-itunes-movie-chart-coronavirus-outbreak-1274163

Okay everyone, we are in 2020 now (in case you forgot), and I had an idea. I know that there was apprehension about doing these more recent years, but we are now 10 years removed from the 2010 movies. So lets take some time and revisit that list to see if we still agree with our 5 choices.
Our picks for that year were: Social Network Inception Alice in Wonderland Fighter Toy Story 3
Fighter is standing out like a sore thumb to me personally.

Inception and The Social Network are the only locks. The Fighter definitely doesn't belong. Toy Story 3 can probably be dropped too. Good movie but not especially important. Much as I loathe Alice in Wonderland, it probably does belong. It essentially served as the blue print for live-action Disney remakes that were addressing the "problematic" aspects of their source material while technically being far more problematic and also bad.
I'm definitely down with replacing The Fighter with Black Swan. I can maybe hear out an argument for Dogtooth. Yorgos Lanthimos has certainly become a major world filmmaker. I kinda want to make a case for Blue Valentine but I don't know if I can swing anyone to my way on that.

We should re-evaluate Social Network. Facebook is a completely different company 10 years later. The fact the movie centers around IP theft seems so inconsequential now. The story of Facebook is the story of Russian trolls and Donald Trump and anti-maskers. There’s a much better Facebook movie waiting to be made (hopefully by Doomsday & SnoBorderZero) that will make David Fincher’s version seem like Pirates of Silicon Valley, the TNT made for TV movie about Steve Jobs & Bill Gates. The defining David Fincher movie of the 2010’s is gonna be Gone Girl, not Social Network, so if Dracula & PG Cooper feel the need to fight for Social Network cause of “muh Dave Fincher”, don’t worry my dudes, you got Gone Girl.
