The other actor in the last scene looks and sounds authentic enough, that was good casting

BBC Reveals First Female 'Doctor Who' Lead The BBC on Sunday revealed Jodie Whittaker as the 13th Doctor for hit series Doctor Who. She will be the first female lead for the sci-fi series on the U.K. public broadcaster. Current lead Peter Capaldi will leave his role after this year's Christmas special. The BBC had on Friday announced that it would unveil the new Doctor after the men's Wimbledon final, taking fans by surprise. Among the various names thrown out by bookies as contenders for the Doctor Who lead role have been the likes of Fleabag creator and star Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Death in Paradise actor Kris Marshall and even Tilda Swinton. Capaldi first stepped into the Tardis in 2013 and is set to leave at the same time as showrunner Steven Moffat exits the show. Earlier this year, Pearl Mackie was tapped to play the first openly gay companion to the space-hopping doc.

I have no opinion so far as my viewing of Broadchurch helps me none whatsoever on her ability as the Doctor.
But it's pretty cool they chose a woman.

I've only seen her in Attack the Block. She was fine in it. I wasn't exactly looking for a nuanced performance while watching it. The last time I watched the film was because John Boyega had been cast in Star Wars. I suppose I'll watch it again and pay more attention to Sam this time.
I've no issue with a female incarnation of The Doctor. It was bound to happen sooner or later. I'm curious to see how her gender will be handled during an adventure at a point in time when women are almost never taken seriously. It would be a shame if they just ignore it.
The only casting I suspect may not be inevitable is someone who is Ginger. They'll keep that running gag going.

Sorry far she's got smiling and appearing down. Yeah. But she still touched what, two buttons, fell out of and blew up the TARDIS? Like I said, women drivers

Just finished watching the first episode of the new season. Not only to we have a new Doctor, but we also have a new production aesthetic. The show looks far more cinematic now. It was a good start, but the first episode of a new Doctor is always a bit rocky in the modern series. Looking forward to seeing how things progress. I know a lot of idiots are bent out of shape about having a female Doctor, but it doesn't bother me in the slightest. I'm just glad they waited until now to do it. The BBC was seriously considering introducing a female Doctor in 1984, but ultimately went with Colin Baker. In the end, poor Colin would not fare well. This was in large part due to the head of the BBC hating Doctor Who, and wanting to cancel the show. He mandated that all the worst writers the BBC had on staff be assigned to Doctor Who, the length of each episode be extended, and the budget cut. Most people just blame Colin Baker though, rather than those truly responsible. If a woman had been cast in the role, no doubt the blame for the ratings dive would have been not only on her, but the fact that they'd cast a woman at all. As it is, the only reason anyone was watching was thanks to Nicola Bryant, the companion of the time. She's certainly the only reason I bothered.

Just realized this season was almost over when I happened upon an article about it.
Bought the season yesterday on Amazon Prime Video.
First two episodes were kind of weak - but you'll have that. The third episode "Rosa" was very well done. I'll watch the next one tonight
