BBC One adaptation of sci-fi classic The War of the Worlds begins filming
The three-part miniseries BBC One adaptation of the H.G. Wells literary masterpiece The War of the Worlds has begun filming in Liverpool.
Based on the novel of the same name, the series is set in 1900s Edwardian England and follows a couple choosing to defy societal constructs with their love, only for their story to be interrupted when a Martian invasion has them fighting for their lives. The couple will be portrayed by Rafe Spall, known for starring in the Blood and Cornetto trilogy and The Big Short, and Eleanor Tomlinson, known for her roles in Jack the Giant Slayer and Death Comes to Pemberly.
Tomlinson expressed in an interview with BBC a feeling of delight to be working on the project, namely to work with director Craig Viveiros (And Then There Were None), of whom she says she is a big fan and that “creating this world with him at the helm is very exciting.” Spall has described being “thrilled” to be bringing the story to the screen and honored to work alongside Tomlinson in the lead role.
The series will also co-star Robert Carlyle, known for starring in the Trainspotting films and Once Upon a Time, and Rupert Graves, popular for his role as Detective Inspector Lestrade in the BBC adaptation of the classic detective, Sherlock Holmes.
No release date for the miniseries has currently been set or even speculated upon.
