I didn't expect to see a movie this year that surpassed 'You Were Never Really Here.' I was wrong.
Someway, somehow, Jim from The U.S. Office has crafted a masterful suspense/thriller/sci-fi/horror movie that covers what should be old ground in fresh, terrifying and incredibly tense ways.
In the near future, creatures have overridden the planet, destroying what appears to be every major city in their wake. One of the few things known about them is that they react to sound, so the protagonists must go to great lengths to stay silent. All the time. Have you ever tried to have a quiet, or what I like to call 'ghost', poop? Shit is hard. No pun intended. And with 3 kids running around, it's even more difficult to avoid the attention of the malevolent beings in the forest near their home.
It's genuinely impossible to convey just how much the tension is ramped up throughout this film, and particularly in the second half. You'd have thought you were watching the seasoned direction of a master, but this is just John Krasinski's third motion picture - and his first major release by some distance. To say that I'm excited about his next would be a major understatement.
The performances are top notch across the board, the barely-used music is perfect and the CGI is brilliant in a way that Annihilation's creature effects really ought to have been.
Do not miss the chance to see this on the big screen, where it will hopefully blow you away as it did me.
9.5/10

Seeing this tonight. I've been pretty pumped for it since I saw the first trailer.

Aaaaaaaaaaaand....meh.
Well directed, acted, but boy did that third act fall flat for me.

It might be the worst thing about this movie. Normally I like seeing comedies and scary movies with a crowd, but this is one that is definitely better with as little people as possible.

I should have driven across the metroplex to the Alamo to see A Quiet Place last night. So many people with cellophane bags and wrappers making noise! On top of that, some idiot went to the entryway to talk on her phone. For any other movie, nobody would have noticed a thing. The loaded fries are great. The Royale with Cheese is my usual, but get it with dijon instead of aioli. That shit's nasty. Fantastic film! 9/10

This was a great movie that was tainted by idiots sitting next to me. Despite an aggressive cough to get their attention, then pointing to the screen and making the "SHH" motion they continued to whisper through the entire movie and talk at normal volume when they deemed the soundtrack appropriate. Being the passive aggressive person I am, I loudly announced once the movie was over how I was worried about my gurgly stomach being rude, but these assholes had no problem talking through the whole movie. I'm genuinely confused how anyone thinks that shit is acceptable. If I hadn't been in the middle of the row I would have gotten up to complain, but I thought that would be just as disruptive. Back to my thoughts on the movie itself. The acting was great, the soundtrack was effective, the creature design was super cool. It's a really tense movie and the jump scares didn't bother me like they do in most movies. The only thing that bothered me was the baby plotline. Clearly pharmacies still have drugs left. If you guys can find time to bang and not make any sound SURELY you can pick up some Plan B so you're not giving birth to a noisemaker. Then, after the baby was born and it started making any noises around the monster I don't understand why they didn't just toss it out as a distraction and GTFO. Sure, I'm a soulless witch, but if it were me in a room with a baby and a monster attracted to noise it's "grenade out" and start running

Fantastic. In many ways, it's a shining example of just pure filmmaking -- both in terms of the suspense genre and in general. I can't help but think that someone like Alfred Hitchcock would be proud. And coming from John Krasinski, it's even more impressive. He just keeps ratcheting up the tension more and more as the film goes on and rarely lets up. Yet he also maintains a very human and intimate tone at the same time. And both he and Emily Blunt are great in this. This only continues the recent resurgence we've had of some horror movies with real heft to them.

I thought it was pretty good, but it definitely fell short of greatness for me. Great premise and there are some wonderfully suspenseful set-pieces, but I think the movie runs into trouble in the third act. I did not like the resolution to the story at all and while I get the character dynamic the movie set-up, the pay-off didn't work for me.

I dug it. When they started showing clippings about how it was all about sound I thought that was a dead giveaway and wondered why it wasn't explored more.
Loved the end scene and thought it was quite capabale as far as thrillers go. Exlaining how the things got there would have ruined everything so I'm glad they left it open on that.
I'd probably watch it again but not anytime soon.
7 for me.

Great great great great great movie slightly spoiled by only three things: 1. What was with all the news stories? Were journalism publications really able to conduct interviews, type up copy, print out papers, and distribute them out during an invasion with very-quickly-moving aliens who instantly pounced on anything that made a single noise?
2. In the aforementioned headlines, it is clear that the military figured out that the creatures couldn't be hurt by bullets or bombs (because of their armor, I guess), but the top scientist minds in the world couldn't figure out that audio-sensitive aliens could be stopped with high-frequency noises? I would think they could figure this out very quickly and take these fools down.
3. That alien ripped right through the silo wall and that steel panel on top of the kids, but it couldn't get into the truck? Eh.
I think if they had gone with a different weakness, or left out a peek into what was going on in the big world, it would have been a perfect film. Aside from that, I think this was an extraordinary film that could be re-watched anytime someone tells me they want to watch a good horror movie. My complaints above cut deep, for me, but the film was so brilliant, I'm almost willing to forgive them. The stakes were raised almost instantly, and the direction and acting were just superb. I'm almost jealous of how amazing a career Krasinski is having. It isn't enough he played one of the most iconic characters of all-time from a TV show, but now he has proven his worth as a superb film writer and director. 9/10

It was... okay. Some people were saying this is a masterpiece and great film-making like "Get Out" last year.
It's a fun movie, decent plot. But I'd compare it to Shamaylans "Signs"
"Get Out" had a great social commentary and little things in that movie really added more to the conversation. I don't see anyone having the same experience with this film.
7/10

Anything they'd do to explain them would only make it worse. Every movie has some, but yeah I noticed those too.

I really liked this one. It seems the last four years have each produced a really strong thriller that grabs me: 2015- It follows, 2016- the witch, 2017- get out, 2018- this.
Wow was I ever conscious of making noise in the theater though!

I liked it, probably not as much as a lot of you but it was crafted very well. Two things didn't quite sit well with me though: 1. John Krakinski's death didn't feel very deserved. It was supposed to be a deep moment but it didn't affect the overall story. The ending would have been the same regardless and his death only served as a 'shock' moment. The ending would have been just as effective had he remained alive. This scene made the movie feel like it was trying extra hard to hit me in the gut and I just didn't buy it. It was unnecessary.
2. Considering how the newspaper clips stated that they all knew the monsters located people by sound, you would think that scientists/the military/society would be able to figure out that the noise static/frequency would throw them off. Instead it was discovered a year and a half into the event after most of humanity had been wiped out. Hmmm...
