Someone also brought up the point that Joel launched this just after stimulus checks went out and tax returns are set to come in. That might explain the high volume of cash so far.
If that was planned, that's pretty brilliant.

Ah great, someone planted it in my head that one of the classic episodes in the 150 tier might be K03 and I'm having anxiety wondering if I should upgrade or not.
I will NOT miss out on the last lost episode, goddammit!

The new promotional image for the Kickstarter has a new cast member silhouette. I'm making my Hail Mary speculation and saying it's Emily Marsh and they're adopting her character into the TV show. It seems to match her profile exactly.

That moment where Frank Conniff retweets you and you know at that instant you made one of your comedy heroes laugh.

I didn't ever think I was going to top Gail Simone as a Twitter follower, but this might be the greatest thing that has ever happened to me on that hellsite.

We've got Blu-ray sign! Another classic MST episode hit Blu-ray this week, Hercules and the Captive Women from The Film Detective includes the classic fourth season episode as a special feature. I knew this release was happening, but I didn't hear it included the MST episode until just now. As usual, the MST episode is SD, while the unriffed film will be HD. www.blu-ray.com/movies/Hercules-and-the-Captive-Women-Blu-ray/282661/

Okay so the mystery star has been revealed and...yup. I think we all saw this coming. So, they announced a lot of stuff about what the new season of MST3K will be. I'm not going to speculate too much on the filming method stuff. I'll trust them to figure it out. The meat and potatoes of the news we got today is that Emily is joining the show, but there is a twist. She's going to be stuck in a separate location with her own Servo and Crow, voiced by Connor McGiffin and Nate Begle, respectively (they voice the bots on the tours). And apparently what's going to happen is that Jonah, Baron, and Hampton are going to alternate episodes with Emily, Connor, and Nate. I'm still wrapping my head around this, but I don't feel fully positive or negative about it. I like both casts, so it should be fine. It just seems convoluted. As if that wasn't enough, Joel sprung on us a surprise that if we make it to nine episodes, he will return to the show to host one episode as Joel Robinson, and if we make it to twelve episodes, he'll host two. That's a lot of...a lot. I love Joel, but this host swapping thing might get a little out of hand. And if you're going to go this far into it, creatively it feels like it would make the most sense if you go all out with it and bring Mike in as well. And maybe take it a step further and have Kevin and Bill play his Servo and Crow while Josh and Trace would play Joel's. This isn't totally feasible, because Trace has said as recently as the previous Mads show that he has absolutely no interest in coming back, while Mike seems to have washed his hands of an MST return as well. I'm just spitballing how I think all of this would be more agreeable if it happened. I'm curious though, so I'll put on my happy face and keep optimistic. This update raised more questions than it answered though.

And on the heels of that announcement, we've crossed $3.3 million and officially have a six episode season.

After a very, very long hiatus MST3K, Rifftrax, and Beyond is back! MST honors Frank Zappa and I honor my dad with our comeback review of Village of the Giants! BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE! Feast on some delicious serial with MST's very own Serial Variety Pack! Just add milk and enjoy! Closing out this review batch is a brand new DVD retrospective! Today I collect my thoughts on Volume XXVII! How does it stack up?

Heads up, MSTies. There are live streams associated with the new Kickstarter that are airing both on YouTube and Twitch (maybe more). I wasn't sure what this was going to be, but it turned out to be a little Q&A with Joel, Emily, Nate, Conor, and Yvonne followed by a watchalong of an episode of the series.
Tonight they did Hobgoblins, which apparently is Emily's favorite episode, and Joel actually hadn't seen it before. Watching his real time reactions to the episode was actually a lot of fun. He even pointed out during the opening credits of the movie "Hey! I know that guy!"
Takeaways from the Q&A: Joel mentioned he's going go reveal some movie titles before the Kickstarter ends! This is kind of a contrast to last time when he wanted the movies to be a surprise (they got leaked anyway, but still). I am curious about another point at the end of the stream where they started talking about the sex jokes in Hobgoblins and they started talking about a discussion they were all having about the seduction scene in Howard the Duck while watching that movie. I'm curious...is this a Freudian slip and is Howard up for a season 13 slot? Maybe I'm reading to much into that.
Also, apparently my question about how everyone landed their gig on the show really excited Emily, because she liked my tweet almost instantly, and pretty much one of the first things she did after everyone settled in was bring it up saying she wanted to answer it first. I'm not gonna lie, that made me happy.
Anyway, there is another stream on Friday of Quest of the Delta Knights, which Joel admits he also hasn't seen. Mary Jo Pehl will also be sitting in for that one, so I'm looking forward to it!

I'd really like to see some movie genres that MST3K has yet to cover for season 13, like Kung Fu and animation. There are some that were only covered once or twice, like superheroes (Pumaman & Danger: Diabolik). There is one genre that never gets old for me though, and that's Star Wars knock-offs. I'd love to see them riff on Space Raiders. A Star Wars knock-off from Roger Corman? Yes, please!

And Rifftrax has done Fist of Fury starring Bruce Lee, but I haven't seen it. On superhero titles, ever since season 11 dropped and they did some pretty big dealings on MGM titles, I thought a good one for them to try and get would be the 90's Captain America movie.

Something's fishy around here. Could it be all the Killer Fish in our latest review? We journey back into the Gauntlet today and go for a swim in the lovely, lovely red waters!

Our latest review is of the outstanding Teen-Age Crime Wave, an episode so great that the only review that could do it justice would be "TURN IT ON! TURN IT OOOAAAAAAGH!" And another DVD volume in the books. Check out the uniformly excellent Volume XXXIII, a must-own MST volume if there ever was one!

I'm starting to feel a bit concerned about the Kickstarter. I don't want to have to settle for nine episodes. I want the full twelve, plus the shorts. They're holding the shorts hostage to the highest tier because they know full well that those are everyone's favorite.

They're holding the shorts hostage to the highest tier because they know full well that those are everyone's favorite. The last day of the original Kickstarter was over a million dollars without add-ons. We're tending above where the original Kickstarter was at this point and it looks like we're setting up our last day very nicely. It's possible the last call could fall limp, but I see no reason to worry just yet.

Okay so Kickstarter round-up. First of all, I want to say any "criticism" that the relaunch casts aren't "funny enough" went down in flames tonight. That Jackbox stream was through the roof, and anybody who doesn't find Hampton Yaunt funny has a empty soul (as empty as Doomsday's). So with the extra push from the stream and Nate Begle's Ed Wynn impression, we hit 4.25 million. We're less than 150k from the next goal. I think we can make this tomorrow. On the surface it might seem like a tall order to keep pace with the last few days, but let's remember what tomorrow brings. Tomorrow is the Werewolf live stream. Not only is this my personal favorite of the episodes being streamed, we know for certain two things will come out of it. First, Joel's delayed announcement of movie titles is happening on that stream. I'm still siding with it being likely that the reason he's releasing these titles early is because at least one of them is a banger that's going to drive traffic to the Kickstarter. And I'm still betting on these titles being the last three Showa Gamera films. Them being bumped away from the Gamera stream still doesn't daunt me from standing down on my theory. Second is that Bill Corbett is guesting on tomorrow's stream, and his guest spot is being phrased with the words "unexpected offer." This has gotten me thinking Bill is going to announce he's guesting on the series, either as Joel's version of Crow or as Observer. If the former is the case, it might be possible that he'll also bring news that either Kevin or Josh will return as Servo as well. That being said, during today's update it was mentioned that they are negotiating with Rifftrax for titles to be featured on the Gizmoplex. Bill's offer could just be Rifftrax library. Speaking of that update, the Gizmoplex sounds like Audible with MST. There will be a free version with just the episodes you have purchased through the Gizmoplex (the only episodes that will be carried over from anywhere will be the rewards people own on VHX/Vimeo). There is also an added perk of being able to hold a live viewing of an episode with friends who happen to also own the episode, which is basically a personal Twitch chatroom. There is a subscription version that offers discounts on episodes, but also free passes to live events such as episode premieres. I don't think anything about this Gizmoplex idea is too mind blowing, but we'll see how it all pans out once it's up and running. I'm betting it's going to be pretty glitchy and buttery for a while, like most new streaming services.

9 episodes a lock. Joel's challenging us to get to 5 million by Thursday. Tall order, but it looks like we have a shot.

Also, Bill's offer wound up being Rifftrax rewards, including a Rifftrax show on the Gizmoplex should the Kickstarter reach 5.5 million.

The movies announced tonight were Demon Squad (2019) and Robot Wars (1993).
Twas a good theory I thought. I'll go to the corner and cry now.
