Anybody watch the Hugh Jackman-starring Bad Education on HBOMax? Enjoyable, but the 90+ percentage eating on RT got my expectations a little too high. Recommended though. It’s good

I'm going through Peacock's free content right now. The Matrix movies keep popping up, which I would have thought would have been on HBOMax. I'm curious what contract got those fuckers on there.
Cheers and Fraiser for free, which is a huge plus for me, which gives this a leg up on Netflix and CBS All Access because that's what I'd usually default to. A Hitchock and Universal Horror section is my heaven. And it even has The Carol Burnet Show. Fuckin' a!
Looked at what they're trying to entice me into paying for in the "premium" section. Everybody Loves Raymond and King of Queens. Thanks, but I'm good.
I've never watched 30 Rock or Parks and Rec properly. Maybe now is my chance.

The Matrix is Warner Brothers That why I said I understand why they're being dropped. Fast & Furious and Jurassic Park are being dropped too.

Several Universal properties have been said to be non-exclusive, so other services can still buy rights to stream them if they want. 30 Rock and Parks and Rec, for example, are still able to be watched on other services and as long they're being paid for, they'll continue to be. But presumably some of the contracts for streaming include temporary exclusivity, which means even Universal can't show them on Peacock during those periods. Some of these contracts may have already been in place before the launch as well.
They probably stand to sometimes make more money than ads net them still licensing their shows/movies out to others. It's just a different form use for syndication.

Yes they do, and I'll be watching it next month before it EXPIRES WHICH WHAT THE HELL! Can someone explain to me how Warner Bros. films, like Full Metal Jacket and Harry Potter, are leaving HBO Max in September? I assume pre-existing contractual obligations to other streaming services before falling entirely back into Warner's possession, but that just seems odd that these titles would ever leave.

I assume pre-existing contractual obligations to other streaming services before falling entirely back into Warner's possession, but that just seems odd that these titles would ever leave. Like Universal and Peacock, Warner Brothers makes lots and lots of money from licensing their movies out to other services and cable networks and for the moment HBO Max does not make enough money to justify completely shutting off their usual licensing revenue. Disney has deep enough pockets that they can take a hit and horde most of their catalog as a loss leader to get people interested in Disney+, but even they haven't gone so far as to hold exclusive rights to every Marvel movie just yet.

Thank you, I figured that was what they were doing.
To be honest I sort of like that. We'll trade you Harry Potter so we can stream Jurassic Park for a month or something like that. I don't see it as a long-term situation, but while so many of these streaming services are establishing themselves why not.

That'd be fun for a show I've seen every episode of. Shuffling the deck and getting a random South Park episode or something would be great.

Get a random dose of Simpsons, King of the Hill, South Park, Family Guy, Futurama, American Dad, Rick & Morty and Solar Opposites. You'd kill 4 hours easily with that.

He's been in a bitchy mood since having to testify on Capitol Hill. I'll give it a few days.

Digital Bits cited it as "rumor mill worthy," so don't take it to the bank but they have some pretty deep connections in the home media world and don't report on things if there isn't some truth to it. From what I'm reading Disney doesn't see a lot of future in Hulu because they don't really operate outside of the U.S. They were keeping it around if the growth of Disney+ turned out to be slower than they hoped, but now that that has worked beyond their wildest dreams they're probably going to fold a lot of their Hulu stuff into it rather than try to grow both.

So does that mean Hulu's in trouble? Possibly. Probably won't happen overnight, but I wouldn't be shocked if it kind of goes back to its roots of being an ad-based digital repository of network television rather than some kind of Netflix competitor.
