I know, I wanted to be dramatic. For the kids that weren't there, ya know? It was worse in the 90's.

It's weird that they'd reveal this. Doesn't this make NBC look bad, in more ways than one? I guess the only up side for them doing this is to unveil that Netflix's numbers were far worse (which I guess in their eyes is so). Even sillier, though, there's no way those numbers are anywhere near accurate (for the same reasons the Nielson ratings have always been a joke). The estimation they came up with was based only on monitored people with that software on their phones, which is even worse than the Nielson ratings pool.
I guess the fact of the matter is, people are paying for Netflix. The ratings don't really matter at the end of the day, as long as people continue to pay for the streaming service.

No one is gonna pay $50 to watch a movie. Not to mention paying $150 for the box that transmits the movies. Most I could see paying is 20-25 dollars. That's only because if my wife and I went out on a date night it's going to run around that price anyways.

Ticket prices around here are around 11 dollars, they do have an everyday special for $5.75 between 4-5. That being said I would gladly pay $25 so my wife, son, and I could watch a movie in the comfort of our own home. Between the gas driving there, and outrageous prices for food I would end up saving money.
Now on the other hand if it was just a movie that I wanted to see and my family wasn't interested heck no I wouldn't pay that.

That's ridiculous. For $50 at a theater, you could pay to see, like, eight movies if you just pay for tickets and don't get any snacks. And I'm using matinee prices to calculate that.

I'm assuming this is targeted at families. A family of 4 can easily spend $40-50 on just tickets during regular hours.

One of the biggest pitfalls of this: you shell out $50 for a movie, but you end up not liking it. You just blew 50 bucks on a movie you didn't like, a bigger loss than, say, $6.50 or $7.50 for a matinee ticket and even a nighttime one that's a few dollars more. This still applies to those movies you think look good, but end up being disappointing.

We don’t understand why the industry would want to provide audiences an incentive to skip the best form to experience the art Because event movies are getting shittier and more expensive - and the current generation of award winning movies don't really benefit from the theatrical experience. I still think that $50 is an outrageous price and will likely doom to the business. But if it works, more power to them.

I've never seen Scrooged... Richard Donner. Bill Murray. Danny Elfman. It's flawed, very flawed, but it has enough talent involved to make it somewhat work.
