I need an official death toll. It was so dark and shaky I think I missed people.
Where was Gendry, for instance?

Kinda feels like a step down dealing with Cersei now, doesn't it? I was hoping one theory would have held true; that the Night King actually was going to divert some of his forces and attack King's Landing, taking them off-guard. Would have drawn out the undead threat a bit longer. I need an official death toll. It was so dark and shaky I think I missed people. Where was Gendry, for instance? Lots of nobodies and some side characters kicked the bucket. None of the key players died, other than Jorah and Theon. Definitely a major gripe I had with the episode. At least the circumstances around in which they survived. Seemed very silly and not Game of Thrones at all.

Insanely impressive episode on a visual level. The fighting was top notch and was extremely well done on a technical level. And I'm cool with Arya delivering the final blow to Mr. King.
But...
Didn't love the execution of those final 5 minutes. Felt a little too rushed, and I think it would have benefited Thrones to let this Night King story line bleed over until at least the next episode. It would have been perfect from a suspense standpoint.
I know this show is all about the characters and their interactions with one another, so I should be thrilled the final showdown is an all out human war, but I have trouble generating as much interest as I did for the Night King stuff. Ultimately, that portion of the show feels a little unexplored, which is weird to say after 70 + hours of story telling.
Also, I think they should have killed a few more characters. That was the whole point of the dread and fear they were building. At this point, I just need to sit back and let the show do it's thing, but I'd be lying if I didn't say I was somewhat disappointed by last night's outing.

I know they long ago set it up that the whole white walker army would die if the Night King was killed but... sorry, that was just too easy. They've spent eight damn seasons setting these guys up as a world destroying threat but they were then wrecked in a single episode all because the Night King was to impatient to make sure everyone was dead before he marched in to finish Bran.

Ever since they passed the books these storylines have become too simplistic. I'm not gonna lie and say I didn't like the episode, I very much enjoyed it. But it's clearly not what will happen in the books. Neutering jon snow after setting up this epic rivalry between him and the night king to just keep him in the background during the ultimate showdown? Why?
Ever since they have gone passed what martin wrote you can see it's all kinda paint by numbers. There's no real unpredictableness. What'd we lose two characters last night? Maybe they are saving the best deaths for the living v living part of the end, but these episodes are just making my want the books more and more as it hasn't even been confirmed we have a night king yet, and I bet he doesn't go down in the same way at all.
But I do enjoy these episodes and will clearly watch them all night of but as you break it down and think deeper about this shit it begins to break down. These last few seasons should give us a good idea about what to expect from d and D's star wars trilogy as well.

I doubt there will even be any more books.
It's been 8 years since the last one, and I'm D&D are doing the best with what they've got, they surely never expected that nothing else would've been released by now.
The blame lies with Martin. Imagine if he had had a year/year and a half to turn around each next part.
The show is far from perfect but to go from thousands of pages of source material to a vague outline was bound to take its toll, no matter who's in the writers' room.

I agree with a lot of what you have all said, especially donny. And Drac you are right, they killed him too easy.
As far as the episode, there were some great parts, like how Melisandre lit up the dothraki swords, and then how everyone just watched them blink out.
But as the battle went on, it basically became a series of people getting into situations where they almost die, then are saved by someone else. Over and over again, even up till the end.
And Franky you are right about Jon, why was he left out of the main conclusion? They STILL havent dealt with the fact that he returned from the dead, and I thought that would have some sort of impact or impression here, but no. Now I'm wondering if there will be any consequence from that at all.

Has Jon Snow already done the thing he needed to be alive for? Helping at the battle of the bastards? Warning everyone about the white walkers to unite armies? Putting a baby in Dany's belly? What?
The show has definitely lost its balls now. Never mind all the unlikely survivors, but I was even thinking about smaller things here and there that would have given it some more 'oomph'. Like if this was really Game of Thrones, that little girl would have gotten her head bitten off. How fucked up would that have been? How much more GoT would it have been to do so? A moment that leaves you going "WTF?!" But no, you had to pay her fan service instead.

(GAME OF THRONES SPOILERS, DONT READ UNLESS YOU WATCHED LAST NIGHT'S EPISODE!) I can't help love the heck out of Arya sneaking around the corridors and hiding from white walkers leading up to one of my favorite scenes "What do we say to Death?" NOT TODAY~ Holy mother of DRAGONS with her assassin skills all the way to the stab of the night king. Quite easily for me personally, one of my favorite moments in "Game of Thrones" But seriously does anyone feel with "ENDGAME' and "Game of Thrones" battles a day apart that our hearts almost gave out lol v.redd.it/0bh58ly3v8v21

How did she manage to sneak past thousands of white walkers? Cuz she’s was trained to be an assassin. Literally the only one could do this sneak attack job was Arya

But Bran was between the tree and the Night King. Unless she climbed out of the tree and walked around in plain view of 5,000 white walkers.

I would have liked Jon Snow to fight him. He could have made it to Bran in time, helped Theon defend him, then after Theon died, he could have a one on one. He could even have lost, per se. And then when the Night King is about to go for a killing blow on him, THEN have Arya do the exact same thing. Jump, get grabbed, and stab. It would at least somewhat excuse her being able to sneak in, since he (and I guess the other walkers as a result?) would be distracted by the fight.

I echo a lot of what Franky and Ian have said. GRRM for all his faults would've told this story better.
Truth be told, I dont think I've ever cared about the White Walkers over the human vs human component. While I'm not fully satisfied with this episodes resolution, it's not ultimately necessary for me in order to stick the landing. Or stick it as much as the show can salvage from the outline.

Weird theory time. Could Cersei have her own undead army by the time the fighting begins? They never really explored this anymore beyond bringing the Mountain back.
I'm just trying to think to the future now, hoping that some awesome stuff is still yet to come. Unfortunately, the more I keep thinking on this episode, the more annoyed I keep getting. What should have been one of the best episodes and battles of the series, I feel like is one of the worst, if not THE worst. Goldroad, Blackwater, Bastards, were all far more satisfying.
